Roll for Azeroth? D&D and WoW Crossover Leaks on Roll20

A premature Roll20 listing has revealed what appears to be a D&D 5th edition sourcebook set in World of Warcraft's Azeroth, just days before Gen Con kicks off.

"Your Choices. Your Story. Roll for Azeroth." That was the tagline on a now-deleted Roll20 post that appears to have prematurely revealed a Dungeons & Dragons and World of Warcraft crossover product. As reported by En World, the listing mentioned pre-orders for the crossover before being pulled, though screenshots of the header survived.

Based on the framing and the Roll20 platform, this looks like a D&D 5th edition setting book or campaign supplement built around Blizzard's Azeroth. Wizards of the Coast has done this before with Magic: The Gathering worlds like Ravnica and Strixhaven, so the template exists. A Vampire: The Masquerade crossover is also reportedly in the works. But a WoW collaboration would be the highest-profile gaming IP to get the D&D treatment in years.

It wouldn't technically be the first time these two franchises crossed paths. Back during the D&D 3rd edition era, White Wolf published a World of Warcraft RPG under the Open Gaming Licence, and Wizards of the Coast released official Diablo 2 sourcebooks adapting Sanctuary to tabletop rules. A new 5th edition WoW book would be the first major collaboration between these two brands in well over a decade.

Gen Con runs from July 30 to August 2, and Wizards of the Coast has already promised a big keynote hosted by Theo Solomon, who voiced Wyll in Baldur's Gate 3. The leak's timing strongly suggests this was meant to be one of the headline announcements. I'm curious what a WoW sourcebook actually brings to the table that D&D doesn't already cover, given how much Warcraft's fantasy DNA was borrowed from D&D in the first place. New subclasses and race options pulled from Azeroth's deep lore could be fun, but the real test is whether Wizards can make it feel like more than a reskin. We should get official details within the week.
