A Haunted Book Keeps Killing Crimson Desert Players
Crimson Desert's Equipment Manual has become the game's most feared enemy, hijacking boss fights and forcing players to flip through its pages while they die.
Of all the bosses in Crimson Desert, the deadliest one might be a book. Players on Reddit have been flooding the subreddit with posts about the Equipment Manual, an in-game item that's supposed to explain how to operate factory equipment. Instead, it's hijacking boss fights, refusing to close, and generally ruining lives.
The bug works like this: once you pick up the Equipment Manual and it assembles into a full book, it starts popping up at the worst possible moments. Die to a boss? The book opens. Try to pause mid-fight? The book opens. And it won't dismiss until you've flipped through every single page, even if you've already read it a dozen times. Players report they can't sell it, and some say they can't even drop it until they've finished the associated Elixir Factory quest line. "Every time you die to a boss, this crap pops up," one player wrote. "If you do, you open a damn book in the middle of a fight and you die." Another simply titled their thread "Fuck this book."
I love that this is the bug Crimson Desert's community has rallied around. Not a crash, not a progression blocker, but a possessed instruction manual that keeps killing people during boss encounters. One commenter compared it to the Necronomicon from Evil Dead, and honestly, the comparison tracks. Pearl Abyss pushed out patch 1.04.00 yesterday, which added difficulty settings and a long list of bug fixes, but the patch notes don't specifically mention the Equipment Manual. Players on Hard difficulty, where parry windows are tighter and bosses hit harder, are going to have an especially fun time if this thing pops up mid-combo.
Pearl Abyss has been patching Crimson Desert at a solid pace since launch, so I'd expect this one gets squashed soon. Until then, maybe just don't pick up any books in Pywel.
