Forget RE5, Capcom Wants to Remake Revelations First
According to insider Dusk Golem, Capcom's internal priorities put Resident Evil Revelations ahead of RE5 in the remake queue, a surprising choice that says a lot about where the studio sees the franchise heading.

Most fans assumed Resident Evil 5 was next. After Capcom remade RE2, RE3, RE4, and now has Resident Evil Veronica locked in for next year, the logical next step seemed obvious: take Sheva and Chris back to Africa with modern tech and smooth out the rough edges. But according to well-known insider Dusk Golem, that's not where Capcom's head is at. The studio reportedly has more internal interest in remaking Resident Evil Revelations than either RE5 or RE6.
Dusk Golem shared the information on X, stating that while a Resident Evil 5 Remake will "probably happen in the future due to fan demand," there's "not a strong desire within the company to remake RE5 presently." The teams apparently have other projects they'd rather pursue. And when it comes to what those projects might be the insider was specific: Revelations sits higher on the internal wishlist than either of the co-op-heavy numbered sequels.
I'll be honest, this one caught me off guard. Revelations is a solid game, a 3DS-era survival horror throwback that eventually got ported everywhere, but it's never been the title I'd picture Capcom sinking full remake resources into. RE5, for all its baggage, sold enormously and has a massive fanbase. Revelations feels like a smaller bet. But the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. RE5's setting and premise are controversial enough that a remake would require heavy reworking, and RE6 is arguably an even harder sell given how mixed its reception was. Revelations, by contrast, is a tighter, more traditionally horror-focused experience that slots neatly into the tone Capcom has been chasing since RE7.
How Veronica Got Greenlit
Dusk Golem also shed light on how Capcom decides which remakes to pursue. It's not purely a checklist. A survey conducted around the time of RE3 and Village asked fans which titles they most wanted remade. Code Veronica won, with Zero as the runner-up. Both are now in development. But fan polling isn't the only factor; there also needs to be someone inside the company willing to champion the project. "It wasn't the only deciding factor, like if there's people in the company who want to take it on, but was part of the reason," Dusk Golem explained.
That dynamic is exactly why RE5 might be waiting a while. Fan demand exists, and Dusk Golem acknowledged it will eventually force Capcom's hand, similar to how Zero got its greenlight. But without internal enthusiasm driving the project, it's not going to jump the queue. Revelations apparently has that enthusiasm. RE5 doesn't, at least not yet.
Meanwhile, Veronica itself is generating serious momentum. The game's PlayStation Store listing has already crossed one million wishlists across platforms, and an Xbox Store listing went live this week. The official description promises "modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics," with a 2027 release window. Those two words, "reimagined storyline," are doing a lot of heavy lifting given how much of Code Veronica's original script would need updating for a modern audience.
Capcom picking Revelations over RE5 as the next internal priority is a signal about what the studio values right now. It wants projects that fit the survival horror identity it's rebuilt since RE7, not obligations driven purely by sales numbers. Whether that means we'll see a Revelations remake announcement in the next couple of years is anyone's guess, but RE5 fans should probably settle in for a longer wait than they expected.
