1,005 Videos Axed After Capcom Targets NSFW RE Modder

Capcom's legal department emailed YouTuber GrizzoUK demanding the removal of over a thousand videos showcasing NSFW mods for Resident Evil and Street Fighter. His channel was briefly terminated by YouTube before being reinstated.

1,005 videos. That's how many a single YouTuber was told to delete after Capcom's legal department came knocking over NSFW mod content featuring characters from Resident Evil and Street Fighter.

YouTuber GrizzoUK detailed the situation in a lengthy video, showing an email from Capcom stating that the creation of "adult-oriented" mods based on its characters violates the company's Terms of Service. The email "respectfully" requested the flagged videos be removed, with the implicit threat of further action if they weren't. GrizzoUK's channel was also briefly terminated by YouTube itself for "repeated violations of our sex and nudity policy," though it was reinstated after the videos were deleted and an appeal was filed. He claims the termination tanked his views on the platform even after reinstatement.

GrizzoUK pushed back in his reply to Capcom, asking why he was being singled out when other creators post similar content. "Why am I the only one being single-handedly targeted here?" he wrote, including links to other channels hosting comparable NSFW mod videos. It's a fair question on its face, though Capcom going after one creator doesn't mean others won't follow. If anything, this looks like the opening move, not the entire strategy. I'd expect more takedowns in the coming weeks if Capcom is serious about this.

Capcom's stance on mods

Capcom's Terms of Service don't explicitly ban NSFW content, but they broadly prohibit anything that "may infringe the intellectual property rights of Capcom," including attempts to "modify" its software. The company has also been publicly vocal about mods it considers damaging. Back in 2023, Capcom programmer Taro Yahagi said mods "offensive to public order and morals" tarnish the image of its products. "These offensive mods may be mistaken for legitimate implementations and can cause reputational damage," Yahagi said at the time.

With Resident Evil Requiem sitting at a 89/100 top critic average on OpenCritic and clearly being one of Capcom's flagship releases this year, the timing makes sense. The company is protecting a brand that's performing well, and nude mods going viral on YouTube are exactly blurs the line between fan creation and brand association in the eyes of anyone who doesn't know what mods are.

GrizzoUK says he'll pivot to weapon mods for Resident Evil going forward, while his Stellar Blade NSFW content remains untouched since that's not Capcom's IP to police. I don't have a ton of sympathy for the specific content being removed here, but the selective enforcement is the part that stings for modding communities more broadly. When a publisher only enforces its ToS against one person while identical content thrives elsewhere, it feels arbitrary rather than principled. If Capcom wants to draw a line on NSFW mods, it should draw it consistently, not just swing at whoever happens to be the most visible target that week.

Capcom treated Selena Corey as disposable zombie filler and didn't even tell the voice actor the character's name. Players turned her into Resident Evil Requiem's biggest star anyway.
