Aaron Paul Campaigned His Way Into Fallout Season 3

After showing up to Fallout events for over 15 years and semi-publicly lobbying producer Jonathan Nolan, Aaron Paul has finally landed a role in the show's third season.

Most actors wait for the phone to ring. Aaron Paul has been showing up to Fallout events since 2010, and it finally paid off. Prime Video confirmed on Monday that the Breaking Bad star will join the cast of Fallout Season 3 in an undisclosed role, as first reported by Deadline.

Paul's connection to the franchise stretches back over 15 years. He attended the Fallout: New Vegas launch party at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas in 2010. He showed up to the Fallout Season 1 world premiere in Hollywood. He was at the Season 2 private screening in London late last year. At some point, this stops being fandom and starts being an audition. In a 2024 interview with IGN, executive producer Jonathan Nolan essentially confirmed as much: "Aaron Paul was at the premiere, a human being I love so much. And he was very polite. He was very enthusiastic about the show. There was sort of an unspoken kind of like, 'What's up, man?'"

I love that this casting has a paper trail. Most announcements like this come with a sterile press release and a quote about how thrilled everyone is. Paul's path to Fallout reads more like a slow-motion heist where the target was a role on a TV show. The reunion with Nolan and fellow producer Lisa Joy also makes sense; Paul worked with both on HBO's Westworld, joining that show in its third season as well.

No details have been shared about who Paul will play. Fan speculation has predictably gravitated toward New Vegas' Courier, but given that the Season 2 finale pointed characters toward Colorado, and that the show has mostly featured original characters rather than legacy ones, a brand new role seems more likely. Alongside Paul's addition, Prime Video confirmed that Annabel O'Hagan and Dave Register, who play Vault 33 residents Stephanie Harper and Chet respectively, have been promoted to series regulars for Season 3. Frances Turner will also remain a regular as Barb Howard.

Filming is expected to begin this summer, with a release likely sometime in 2027.
