In a surprising turn of events, the beloved Xbox console exclusive, Sea of Thieves, could soon be charting a course for PlayStation waters. This news, initially reported by Stephen Totilo, suggests that Microsoft is exploring the possibility of launching the game on its rival's platform. However, details regarding the timeline and whether it will be available on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 remain shrouded in mystery.

Developed by Rare and published by Xbox Game Studios, Sea of Thieves first set sail on March 20, 2018. Over its five-year voyage, the game has continually evolved, receiving numerous updates and expansions. Notably, these include crossovers with other Microsoft-owned franchises like Halo and Gears of War. In July 2023, the game introduced a free expansion titled The Legend of Monkey Island, paying homage to the classic Monkey Island series.

December 2023 marked another significant milestone for Sea of Thieves with the launch of single-player servers. This feature was designed to help newcomers acclimate to the game's mechanics without the immediate pressure of PvP combat.

Insider Gaming has reached out to both Microsoft and Sony for comments on this development and promises to update the story as responses are received. This potential expansion of Sea of Thieves to PlayStation consoles could mark a significant moment in cross-platform gaming.
