War Thunder 2.57.1.38 Patch Notes (22nd July 2026)
Hornet variants get up to 10 JSOW bombs, Nuclear Escalation receives major AI and balance overhauls, and several F-16 bugs are finally squashed.

War Thunder 2.57.1.38 is live today, and the standout change is a significant buff to JSOW carrying capacity across multiple Hornet variants. The F/A-18E and F/A-18F in Britain can now haul 10 AGM-154A1 JSOW bombs simultaneously, up from whatever the previous limit was, while the late-model C variants and Swedish AF/A-18A cap out at 8. That's a meaningful boost for players relying on these stand-off weapons in air-to-ground loadouts.
Nuclear Escalation has received a substantial overhaul to its AI behaviour and economy. SAM sites now properly slow when firing and guiding missiles, short-range systems activate search radars defensively, and gunned SPAAs prioritise threats rather than just targeting the closest contact. The mode's ticket costs have shifted dramatically across the board. Aircraft carriers jumped from 100 to 500, SAM launchers from 5 to 30, and player aircraft actually dropped from 30 to 20. The total team pool increased from 9000 to 10000 tickets, with escalation stage penalties rising to 3000 and 7000 respectively.
A handful of F-16 bugs are also resolved: the ADF and MLU variants no longer miscount bombs in the bay or fail their ballistic computers. Check the full patch notes for every SAM logic refinement and Silver Lion reward adjustment.
Full Patch Notes
▲ Buff✓ Fix◆ TweakAircraft
- F/A-18E, F/A-18F (Britain) — the maximum number of AGM-154A1 JSOW bombs that can be carried simultaneously has been increased to 10. (Report).
- F/A-18C Late, F/A-18C MLU 2 (Sweden), AF/A-18A Late (Britain) — the maximum number of AGM-154A1 JSOW bombs that can be carried simultaneously has been increased to 8. (Report).
- ☢F-16A ADF (USA, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, France, Sweden), ☢F-16A MLU (China), ☢F-16D Barak II (Israel), ☢F-2A (Japan) — a bug that caused the bomb to be counted as the one in the bomb bay has been fixed.
- ☢F-16A ADF (USA, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, France, Sweden), ☢F-16A MLU (China) — a bug that caused the ballistic computer to not function has been fixed.
Naval Vessels
- A bug that caused the “Crew” category to be missing from the X-ray filters in the hangar has been fixed. (Report).
Nuclear Escalation
- The anti-air logic has been refined.
- The SAMs in the convoys now slow down when firing and guiding the missile.
- Short-range SAMs now turn on search radars before launching a missile: when the player is in the radar’s spotting distance (roughly 1.5 times more than the missile’s launch range) and when trying to defend from incoming attacking munitions.
- Logic for defending against ARMs has been added. When an ARM is launched from a sufficiently long range, the AA can turn off the radar as a defensive measure.
- Gunned SPAAs now choose targets based on threat priority, instead of just selecting the closest target.
- A bug that caused the AA to ignore guided bombs with a mass higher than 1500 kg has been fixed.
- A bug that caused the HQ11 and SPYDER AIO to ignore small-caliber munitions like GBU-39 and GBU-53. Long-range AA still ignore such munitions.
- Radar detectability and the size of a munition now affect the range at which SAMs attack them. Currently the only “stealth” munition is the AGM-154 JSOW, and the small ones are GBU-39, GBU-53, SPICE 250, 9M127 Vikhr and Brimstone.
- The minimal altitude of the targets which the long-range SAMs attack on the distances more than 20 km has been increased from 100 meters to 300 meters.
- The priority of the targets flying away from long-range SAMs is now significantly lower, so that the site can better defeat more dangerous threats.
- Two aircraft “eras” are simultaneously present in the event, each of them having two Battle Rating brackets. The battles of the early era have aircraft with the following Battle Ratings: 10.3-12.0 and 11.7-12.7; and the late era has aircraft with the following BRs: 13.0-14.0 and 13.7-14.7.
- New nuke carrying aircraft are available in late era battles: ☢F-16A ADF (USA, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, France, Sweden), ☢F-16A MLU (China), ☢F-16D Barak II (Israel), ☢F-2A (Japan), ☢MiG-29SMT (9-19) (USSR).
- Only 2 nation presets have been retained: USSR vs all, and USSR + China vs all.
- The costs of some vehicles in tickets which are deducted from a team’s total when a vehicle is lost have been corrected:
- aircraft carrier: 100 → 500;
- destroyer: 30 → 60;
- SAM site search radar: 5 → 100;
- SAM site launcher: 5 → 30;
- AA on the airfield, in the convoy or near the factory or strongpoint: 5 → 20;
- HQ11 and SPYDER AIO SAMs: 5 → 30;
- player’s aircraft: 30 → 20.
Patch notes reflect only key changes, meaning they may not include a complete list of all improvements made. Additionally, War Thunder is constantly being updated and some changes may not require an update. Changes reflected in patch notes are formed by taking reactions and requests of the community from the bug reporting service, forums and other official platforms into account. Bug fixes and changes are implemented in order of importance, for example a game-breaking bug will be worked on and implemented sooner.
