Sea of Thieves Release Notes - 3.7.1 (16th April 2026)

Sea of Thieves 3.7.1 is live today, kicking off the inaugural Bilge Rats Weekender alongside a full Doubloon economy reset that changes how the currency is earned and spent.

The biggest thing in 3.7.1 isn't a new ship or a new island, it's a currency overhaul. Rare has reset all existing Doubloon balances, converting old stashes to gold, and capped wallets at 4,000 Doubloons going forward. The currency is now deliberately scarce, with the Bilge Rats Weekender events being the primary way to earn meaningful amounts. If you were sitting on a pile expecting to spend it later, that window has closed.

The Weekender itself runs April 16th to April 20th and brings two limited Voyages, the Smuggler's Doubloon Run and Recovery of a Secret Shipment, plus the returning Festival of Fishing with Hunter's Call bonuses. There's also a new Smugglers' Market run by Duke, stocked with previously time-limited cosmetics at a steep Doubloon price. I like the idea of a roaming shop that crews have to actually locate, though charging premium prices on a freshly scarce currency is a tension Rare will need to watch carefully.

On the gameplay side, Battle Bounds visuals have been improved following player feedback, with clearer red water boundaries and ember-marked mist so crews know exactly when they're about to lose their ship. There's also a system-level framerate optimisation in this build. Here's everything that changed.

Full Patch Notes

Bilge Rats Weekender

Undertake special Voyages and Challenges to win Doubloons in this recurring pirate celebration! The extended debut of the Bilge Rats Weekender is live from April 16th to April 20th, 2026.

The Celebrations Begin!

  • With the Bilge Rats Weekender now active, the Outposts and Seaposts are decorated for the occasion! Larinna can be found inside the tavern and will share more details on this month’s Event, along with access to the Bilge Rats Black Market.
  • During the Weekender, each evening at 9pm (in-game time) a select Outpost will host a rousing Bilge Rats Firework Display, with the best viewing location clearly laid out. Larinna will inform pirates of the schedule for upcoming shows, allowing crews to plan their evening activities.
  • Players can join in the festivities themselves by purchasing a Bilge Rats Fireworks Crate from Larinna.

Bilge Rats Voyages

  • While the Weekender is live, all pirates can take on two new limited Voyages: the Smuggler’s Doubloon Run and Recovery of a Secret Shipment, each rewarding crews with the now sought-after Doubloons.
  • The Smugglers’ Doubloon Run dares crews to smuggle valuable cargo along the marked route. Players should keep an eye on the horizon for rivals while sailing this perilous route, if they want to claim the Smugglers’ reward of a sizeable amount of Doubloons upon completion.
  • The Recovery of a Secret Shipment tasks crews with tracking down a Smugglers’ Shipwreck and reclaiming the valuable cargo within. Players can earn a cosmetic item from previous Seasonal rewards for returning their first Secret Shipment Crate during the Weekender, and Doubloons for recovering additional crates.
  • Crews returning more than three of their own Doubloon Crates or Secret Shipment Crates will find that subsequent hand-ins award gold in place of Doubloons. Relieving rival crews of their crates during the Weekender, however, will continue to reward Doubloons for each crate handed in.

Bilge Rats Challenges

  • Each Weekender also offers a set of Bilge Rats Challenges, lighthearted themed activities that celebrate the more playful side of Sea of Thieves.
  • Challenges are available when sailing on High Seas, can be completed in any order and reward Doubloons for each one completed, whether they’re tackled solo or as part of a crew.

Festival of Fishing Returns

  • During each Bilge Rats Weekender, a popular Live Event from Sea of Thieves history will return. For this first Weekender, the Festival of Fishing returns with two limited Voyages available in High Seas, Event Goals and Doubloon rewards on offer.
  • While this Event is active, The Hunter’s Call will also offer bonuses including free Emissary Flags, boosted Emissary Grade progression and gold and reputation boosts for fishing.

Outpost Shops and Black Market

New Bilge Rats Black Market Stock!

  • Larinna has reopened the Bilge Rats Black Market and offers a range of items that could previously be earned by climbing levels of Seasonal Renown, now purchasable with Doubloons. These items will remain available in the shop for over a year, giving players plenty of time to earn Doubloons and pick up their favourites.
  • The Black Market has received new stock for Season 19:

o Bloodstone Dragon Hat, Pegleg, Gloves and Shirt

o Shadow Tide Mask, Hook, Belt and Serene Hair

o Hungering One Hunter’s Hook, Eyepatch, Trousers and Boots

o Famous Pirate Jacket, Dress, Boots and Belt

o Scorecard and Shimmy Dance Emotes

o Wild Rose Music Box and Legendary Smith of Bones Belt (requires Pirate Legend status)

New Smugglers’ Market Stock!

  • Duke has set up shop in a hidden location on the seas, and crews who determine his whereabouts can browse the new Smugglers’ Market – the contents of which will remain hidden until discovered.
  • This new shop not only brings back some previously time-limited items but introduces a few new cosmetics too. Duke’s stock will remain available for over a year – but be prepared, he demands a high price in Doubloons for these exclusive items!

New Outpost Stock!

  • The Outpost weaponsmiths now offer Midnight Prowler weapons, with the Cutlass, Pistol, Blunderbuss, Eye of Reach, Heavy Sword and Rapier all available for purchase.
  • The shipwrights have also restocked this month with the Red Resolute Sails, Hull and Flag.

Outpost Store Doubloon Stock

  • All items previously available at the Outposts priced in Doubloons have now been converted and are exclusively available to purchase with gold.

Doubloon Economy Reset

As previously announced, this content update resets players’ existing Doubloon totals, in time for the inaugural Bilge Rats Weekender. See the dedicated Forum post for context and read on for specifics!

Doubloon Wallet Conversion

  • On starting their first session following this update, players will find that their stash of Doubloons begins converting to gold. This process will happen with each pirate and take a short time. Players will be notified in-game and their wallet refreshed once conversion is complete.
  • Players who have been earning Doubloons by climbing the levels of Seasonal Renown in Season 19 will find these Doubloons returned to their wallet after the conversion.
  • Players who were eligible to purchase the Doubloon Hoarder commemorative items from Larinna and hadn’t already done so will find these are purchased for them in order of highest value first, and a notification will be sent for each item purchased.

Doubloon Wallet Cap

  • Doubloon wallets will now have an earnings cap, limiting players to holding 4000 Doubloons. Players who wish to earn more will be required to spend some of their stash first.

Earning Doubloons

  • Following the economy reset, the Doubloon currency has become much scarcer and the places where they can be earned have been reduced. Participating in Bilge Rats Weekender activities will award the largest number of Doubloons, but crews can also continue to earn this currency at sea in lesser amounts.
  • Returning Reaper’s Chests to The Reaper’s Bones and progressing through levels of Seasonal Renown will be two of the only ways to earn Doubloons outside the Weekender’s direct activities.

Lifetime Doubloon Reward

  • Players who reached the lifetime Doubloon earning threshold that made them eligible for the Doubloon Hoarder Cutlass will find this reward issued to their account following this update.
  • Please be patient as distribution to all eligible players will take some time. An in-game notification will be sent when the reward arrives. Once all rewards have been issued, the team will provide final confirmation on Sea of Thieves social channels.

Gameplay Improvements

Shrinking Battle Bounds Visual Improvements

  • Following player feedback, the Battle Bounds have been visually improved to ensure crews can clearly see the point at which they will leave and risk losing their ship if they continue.
  • The red water visuals beyond the Battle Bounds have been pulled in closer and now have a more defined starting point to give crews a clear signal of where they will enter the danger zone. The visual effects have also been improved to ensure they are clearly seen in all regions and across all times of day.
  • The mists that demarcate the point of no return now have floating embers clearly marking the point where the ship will explode if crews venture beyond.

Faction Storage Crates

  • Fruit items found in Faction Storage Crates have been reordered, with the most beneficial items appearing first.

Skeleton Ship Encounters

  • Crews encountering roaming or ambushing Skeleton Ships on the seas can now find both regular and Smuggler-treasure laden variants.

Ashen Garrison Compartments

  • Broken Emissary Flags found within locked compartments in the Ashen Garrisons are now less likely to belong to Athena’s Fortune, and are more frequently found for other Trading Companies.

Performance Improvements

  • This update includes a system-level optimisation to address a common cause of client framerate issues experienced during gameplay. In addition, a range of smaller improvements to high-framerate play have been made, addressing hitches that impact the smoothness of the gameplay.
  • Further performance improvements have been made when opening shops to provide a smoother framerate as menus load in a large number of items.

Show off your personal style with purchases from the Pirate Emporium! Pick up exclusive cosmetics such as ship liveries, costumes, weapons, pets and emotes using your Ancient Coins, purchasable with real money. Head to the Pirate Emporium to browse and buy the latest additions!

Updates

Improved Streamer Settings Support

  • Within the Game Settings menu, a new Streamer Mode Support section has been added, consolidating all existing tools that help content creators protect themselves on the seas in one easy-to-access location. These settings also remain in their original locations and will stay in sync when changed in either menu.
  • Creators can Enable Streamer Mode via a single button press to apply a suite of recommended settings.

Voice Chat Notifications

  • Players using in-game voice chat on PC and Xbox consoles will now see the names of players speaking within the HUD at all times in an on-screen indicator, no longer requiring the player to be looking in the direction of the speaking pirate.
  • This setting is enabled by default but can be disabled on both PC and Xbox from the game settings.
