RuneScape Graphically Refreshing: Waterbirth Island! (22nd June 2026)

Waterbirth Island is getting the graphical treatment, and Jagex is still hammering out Avatar bugs across the board.

Waterbirth Island is finally getting the visual refresh treatment. Mod Shiba has overhauled the exterior with fresh trees, scattered snow, and a facelift that brings it in line with the rest of Gielinor, following Mod Zact's work on the Lunar Isles.

But the real meat of today's update is the Player Avatar cleanup. Jagex addressed roughly 18 outstanding issues, including missing skin textures, washed-out colours, NPC chatheads rendering incorrectly, and stretching problems that made you look "quite so wonky or unhinged" during animations like Party Fever Walk. The Max and Comp Capes are now less floaty and actually stay attached. Sixteen animal masks from clue scrolls have also been fixed, no more random bald heads when you wear them.

The studio is spinning up a new system for unique female and male chathead animations, which should let them push the female chathead closer to what the body mesh looks like. There's still work to do, but this batch shows they're moving methodically through the backlog rather than just shipping it broken and calling it done.

Latest Avatar News:

  • Todays update includes fixes for about 18 outstanding issues related to the Player Avatar. While work still continues, we've today addressed instances of missing skin, incorrect or washed out colours, Npcs missing their chatheads, stretching issues and clipping issues. The Max and Comp Capes should now also be a little less floaty and a bit more snug and attached.
  • We addressed issues with some animations, specifically making sure you no longer look quite so wonky or unhinged during Party Fever Walk, Shrug and Parasol Idle.
  • We also resolved issues with 16 animal masks that are obtainable from clue scrolls (so you should no longer randomly have a bald held when wearing them).
  • Finally, we are in the process of spinning up a new system to have unique female and male chathead animations. This will in turn allow us to improve the female chathead and push this much closer to the mesh seen on the body.
  • Just to recap our previous prioritization of work:
    1. Focus on fixing Critical Bugs and known issues.
    2. Finish off the outstanding work to bring all items in line with the new Avatar. That includes ensuring none of the old Avatar skin is present on worn items.
    3. Consider which modifications to Avatar faces or body proportions are necessary and possible based on evolving community feedback.
  • Further patch notes for the Avatar can be found below.

Community Spotlight

FashionScape

With the Player Avatar Rework now in full swing, the FashionScape Discord is looking to sprucen up their stickers of funny player avatar faces, and they are enlisting your help!

The challenge is simple: find the funniest, most messed up facial expression(s) you can in-game. These do not have to expressly be a glitch, just weird/silly/overly animated. They'll be taking what they subjectively consider the best/funniest and replace their current player stickers with new ones. Note: for simplicity's sake, try to take the pic somewhere where it'll be easy for them to edit out the background.

Guidelines:

  • There is no limit on the number of entries, but do note this is a "quality over quantity" event.
  • The submission should include a face.
  • Winning submissions will have the background removed. Please keep this in mind in avoiding use of particles that may partially cover your face
  • Entries will be accepted up to 23:59 UTC of July 31, 2026.

Rewards:

  • Your "lovely" face will be a new sticker in the server
  • People selected will win 1 Bond minimum. The "winner" (i.e. first place) will receive more, quantity yet undefined :rooYAP:
  • So go ahead and get started today, the event is now open in their "#not-the-face" channel!

Thank you for checking this out, if you want to be part of the discussions head on over to the Discord discussion or hop onto the Reddit thread.
