Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 7 Patch Notes (4th August 2026)
Minecraft Dungeons II is official. The sequel expands the dungeon-crawling formula across the Overworld and beyond, adding a fresh antagonist and scaling co-op to four players.

Minecraft Dungeons II exists. After years of the original's steady updates, Mojang has formally announced a full sequel that doubles down on what made the first game work: co-operative dungeon crawling, gear progression, and accessibility for players who want action without survival mode's friction. The reveal, made as part of the 26.3 Snapshot 7 update cycle, signals that the studio sees enough runway in the Dungeons formula to justify a standalone sequel rather than continuing the live-service model.
Scope is important. Where the original Dungeons confined you to a single realm, the sequel spans the Overworld and beyond, suggesting a campaign that moves between multiple biomes and dimensions. That structural change matters because it gives level designers more visual and mechanical variety to work with. A dungeon in the Nether plays differently from one in a forest or a corrupted landscape. The announcement mentions "a new, challenging threat" as the antagonist, which is vague enough to mean anything from a reskinned Arch-Illager to something entirely novel, but the two-world setting implies the narrative stakes are higher than the first game's contained conflict.
Co-op scaling to four players is the practical shift that changes how Dungeons II will feel in play. The original supported four-player parties, but the sequel's emphasis on "team up with new and old friends" and "smash your foes with the power of collaboration" suggests the encounter design is being built around that number from the ground up, not bolted on after solo balancing. That's a significant design choice because it means difficulty curves and loot distribution will assume four bodies in the room, which could make solo or two-player runs either trivial or punishing depending on how the studio handles scaling.
What remains unaddressed is whether Dungeons II will release on the same platforms as the original, what the price point will be, or when players can expect to actually play it. The announcement is a reveal, not a release date. For now, the sequel exists in outline: bigger, louder, and built for four.
