ArenaNet has dropped a new build for Guild Wars 2 today, with the official March 31 patch notes now live on the game's forums. The update includes changes tied to Vision of Infinity, though the full scope of what's been adjusted is in the notes below.

One thing worth flagging upfront: if you're running any third-party programs alongside GW2, ArenaNet has reiterated that new builds can cause compatibility issues. They won't offer support if a mod or overlay breaks your client after an update, so check your setup before logging in.

This is a live-service game that ArenaNet has kept running and updating for over a decade, credit where it's due for that kind of consistency. Whether today's patch is a light maintenance pass or something meatier, the details are all here.

Full patch notes below.

Note to users of third-party programs: The game may not launch or work properly after we release a new build if you use a third-party program, due to possible incompatibilities. ArenaNet cannot offer support if a third-party modification breaks, interferes with, or prevents you from playing Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2. Our policy regarding third-party programs can be found here.

Vision of Infinity

With eternity mostly envisioned, the commander is looking to the future—and what lies beyond eternity can only be infinity. A yearly letter from the somehow-accredited Professor Smoll ropes the wayfinder into an eye-opening new experimental test, with short-reaching consequences.

Focus in and set your sights on new horizons in the Vision of Infinity weekly experience, starting now and looking up until April 7.

But wait, there's more! For this limited time, you can also experience fond memories of previous April events, including Cozy Café, Heights of Glory, Future Fashionable, Dog Days, Choya Carnival, Missive from the Sunbeam Throne, and Seats of Power.

·         According to science, humans can only fondly remember about seven game updates, but we're going to keep putting these together and hope for the best.

General

·         Bug fixes will now be classified by quality to let you know just how hard we worked to fix them.

·         The Mesmer Collective wishes to remind commanders seeking membership that they are not a real organization; it's just an extended prank on Marjory Delaqua that has gone so far that Kasmeer Meade doesn't know how to come clean about it at this point.

·         Added support for a new Fractal Recursion weekly bonus event. This self-similar event will reprise the popular Fractal Recursion bonus week at infinitely smaller and larger scales.

·         Added a new ultra-compact mode for the Trading Post that minimizes the display to a single button that offers whichever trade is currently best for the economy.

·         Players who find it disconcerting to be looked at by the game launcher can now dismiss it by poking it in the eye twice with the mouse. You can resummon it by entering an ancient cheat code.

Open World

·         After the success of quickplay fractals and raid encounters, a new, more causal slowplay mode is now available. Talk to Stoic Alder for details.

·         Following significant revisions to the Tangled Depths environment, the map has been renamed Straightforward Depths.

Items

·         Adventurers who miss the occasional random companionship of anomalous visions can now purchase a Choice Unburdener Elixir to get back in touch.

·         The Bobblehead Laboratory has been updated with additional, completely safe offerings for adventurers who wish to stack perception-altering effects.

·         Vendors may now refuse to buy items from the player based on tracked market value and their current liquidity.

World vs. World

General

·         Peace Score has been added to track and reward acts of pacifism.

Eternal Battlegrounds

·         Building roofs have been removed.

Profession Skills

Elementalist

Evoker

·         You may now name your familiars for the duration of their summoning.

·         Fixed a rare-quality issue that allowed evokers to list their familiars as dependents for tax-evasion purposes.

Engineer

Amalgam

·         Fixed a common-rarity issue after learning that mercury is actually, like, really unhealthy to have even temporary skin contact with. Characters affected by mercurial mold prior to this fix are out of luck.

Guardian

·         Contextual fire-lighting mechanics such as campfires and arson have had their ignition difficulty reduced by 20%.

Luminary

·         Radiant Forge: Efficacy is now measured in degrees.

Mesmer

Chronomancer

·         Added a new profession skill that exchanges clones and phantasms to pause the game.

Troubadour

·         Fixed an uncommon-quality issue that could cause instrument skills to have diminishing returns over the course of extended encounters as the audience grew tired of repeatedly hearing the mesmer's old work.

Necromancer

·         Minions now require Slabs of Ambiguous Meat to summon. These can be harvested from qualifying kills using harvesting tools.

Ritualist

·         Fixed a legendary-quality issue that allowed necromancers to rename spirits, who already have names, if you ever bothered to ask.

Ranger

Galeshot

·         Flock Together: This skill now additionally activates Mistlock Instability: Birds.

Revenant

·         All elite specialization icons are now speculated to be revenant icons.

Conduit

·         Reduced the frequency at which Razah will attempt to convince conduit players to try Guild Wars Reforged if the exciting new updates and quality-of-life improvements to the classic Guild Wars trilogy have not yet enticed them.

Thief

·         We apologize to thieves for burning a tax-evasion joke on elementalists. That seems like it should have been thief territory.

·         We'll sneak you an extra Steal joke next year to make up for it.

Antiquary

·         Following updated regulations, skritt companions must take a minimum 20-minute break every 4 hours. Your specialization will be changed during these breaks.

Warrior

Paragon

·         Added the rest of the paragon skills from the original Guild Wars.
