Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.55 Notes (28th July 2026)
The Occult Crescent expands northward with a new eight-player field area, a doubled knowledge level cap, and the final chapter of the Phantom Weapons questline.

Patch 7.55 lands today with a substantial expansion to the Occult Crescent, the game's flagship endgame exploration system. North Horn is a new field area requiring item level 690 and level 100 characters, where eight players can now explore together across a 180-minute session. This is not a raid dungeon with scripted encounters; it is an open field where players accrue knowledge through quests and combat, unlock Aethernet fast travel points, and trigger Knowledge Crystals that grant temporary buffs such as reduced vulnerability or increased movement speed. The system mirrors the existing South Horn area but with doubled progression: the knowledge level cap has risen from 20 to 40, meaning players who have already maxed South Horn progression now have another 20 levels of content to unlock before accessing the Forked Tower: Magic and its Extreme variant.
This cap increase matters because knowledge level gates access to the hardest content. Engaging enemies above your knowledge level reduces damage dealt and increases damage taken, but grants more knowledge on victory, creating a progression loop that now extends twice as far. Players who cleared South Horn weeks or months ago will find themselves back in the Occult Crescent grinding knowledge again, which is the intended design but represents a significant time commitment for those seeking to challenge the Extreme variant. The incapacitation penalty system remains: dying without revival costs knowledge, incentivising group coordination and careful positioning in a field where eight players share the same space.
Beyond the Crescent, Patch 7.55 concludes two major questlines. The Phantom Weapons series reaches its final chapter with "Under No Illusion," available from Lydirceil in the Phantom Village. The Hildibrand adventures continue with "Detecting a Lead" in Solution Nine, following the comedic detective storyline. Allied Society quests also receive a capstone with "Touring Tural," requiring completion of three prior society questlines. These are story-only content requiring no special gear, so they are accessible to all level 100 players regardless of item level.
A practical note for collectors: Wings of Mist from Hell on Rails (Extreme) can now be purchased for 99 Runaway Totems, removing the need to farm the extreme trial repeatedly. The drop rate for the item itself has also increased, easing the grind for players pursuing the weapon.
The knowledge level cap doubling signals that the Occult Crescent will remain the primary endgame loop through at least the next major patch cycle. For players already deep in South Horn, this patch offers clear progression; for those still catching up, the doubled cap means the carrot has moved further down the road.

Requirements
Occult Reunion
Disciple of War or Magic level 100 Tuliyollal (X:17.2 Y:11.8) Expedition Messenger Players must first complete the quest "Mysteries Abide."* Players may proceed with this quest even if they have not cleared the Forked Tower: Blood.
Entering the Occult Crescent
Players can enter the Occult Crescent by speaking with Jeffroy in the phantom village (X:4.5 Y:6.6). If entering as a party, the leader must speak with Jeffroy.
* Teleportation to the phantom village will become available via Aethernet after attuning to all Aethernet shards in Tuliyollal and completing the quest "Unfamiliar Territory."
Changing Classes and Jobs
You may change between Disciple of War and Magic classes and jobs that are at level 100. Note, however, that you cannot change classes or jobs during combat or under certain other conditions.
Mounts
Players are free to ride mounts at any time after entering the Occult Crescent, but they cannot fly. Additionally, mount speed will be increased one level from the outset. Players may increase their speed another level by using the North Horn riding map, which can be acquired within the duty.
Occult Return
While on the Occult Crescent, the action Return will be replaced by Occult Return.
Using this action will return players to the base camp.
Aethernet
Aethernet shards are scattered throughout the Occult Crescent. Attuning to them will facilitate faster travel throughout the island.
Knowledge Crystals
These mysterious crystals erected around the Occult Crescent hold a special power.
Knowledge crystals resonate with certain phantom actions, granting players and their party members corresponding effects, such as reduced vulnerability against certain types of attacks, increased movement speed, and more.
Knowledge
Players accrue knowledge─akin to experience points─by completing quests and defeating enemies that inhabit the isle.
Knowledge Level
This is the leveling system specific to the Occult Crescent. Your knowledge level can be increased by accumulating sufficient knowledge.
Engaging foes with a knowledge level higher than your own will reduce damage dealt and increase damage received, but will garner more knowledge upon victory.
Accumulating knowledge is essential for accessing the Forked Towers, which require a specific knowledge level to enter. An increased knowledge level will also make it easier to engage high-level enemies.
Current knowledge level is displayed via the Occult Crescent HUD and the experience bar.
With the release of Patch 7.55, the knowledge level cap has been raised from 20 to 40.
* Although your knowledge level will be synced to 20 while on the Occult Crescent: South Horn, you can still accumulate knowledge in the area.
Incapacitation Penalty
If your knowledge level is above 5, falling in battle on the Occult Crescent can incur a penalty. If you are incapacitated and return to base camp without being revived, or if you leave the instance while incapacitated, you will lose a portion of your knowledge. Should your knowledge fall below zero, your knowledge level will also decrease. The amount of knowledge lost depends on your current knowledge level.
Phantom Jobs
Phantom jobs are supplemental jobs that can be acquired in addition to your main job.
Selecting a phantom job will grant access to specific phantom actions.
Acquiring sufficient phantom EXP will increase your phantom job level, unlocking new phantom actions and phantom traits in the process.
Upon reaching a phantom job's maximum level, you will receive the Phantom Mastery status, which grants increased damage dealt and other helpful effects, and remains active even should you change to another phantom job. The more jobs you master, the more powerful your Phantom Mastery effects become.
The exception to this is the first phantom job available to you, Phantom Freelancer. Freelancers do not gain experience through traditional means. Instead, it levels up with every additional phantom job you master.
Phantom Actions
Phantom actions are special actions available while on the Occult Crescent.
Different phantom jobs have access to a variety of offensive, restorative, and supplemental phantom actions.
Phantom actions can be executed and toggled using the following methods:
Phantom Action Panel Upon acquisition, phantom actions are registered to the phantom action panel, from which they can be selected for execution.
When using a gamepad, press RT + Right Thumb-click (R2 + R3) to execute the currently selected phantom action. If multiple phantom actions are available to use, pressing LT + Right Thumb-click (L2 + R3) will rotate the phantom action panel, allowing you to toggle between different phantom actions. The phantom action panel can also be controlled using the duty actions found under the Duties tab in the Actions & Traits window.
| Action | Effect | |
|---|---|---|
| Duty Action I | Execute Phantom Action |
|
| Duty Action II | Select Phantom Action |
The following settings are accessible by hovering your cursor over the phantom actions displayed in the Phantom Job window:
- Assign to Default Phantom Action Slot
Assigns the selected phantom action to the default slot on the phantom action panel. - Hide from Phantom Action Panel / Display in Phantom Action Panel
Hides or displays the selected phantom action in the phantom action panel. Actions assigned to the default phantom action slot cannot be hidden. - Set to Hotbar (Gamepad Only)
The following settings are accessible via the Phantom Job window:
- Phantom Action Rotation (Clockwise / Counterclockwise)
- Reset After Execution
When enabled, resets the phantom action panel after executing actions. - Gamepad Input
Select which combination of inputs are used to select and execute phantom actions.
Phantom Actions I-V are automatically switched to their respective phantom actions while on the Occult Crescent. They can be dragged and dropped to the hotbar, or registered via the subcommand menu.
Acquiring Phantom Jobs
New phantom jobs can be acquired using items called "soul shards." These crystalline objects can be purchased from a vendor on the isle, or found in critical encounters.
Outside of combat and certain specific conditions, phantom jobs can be changed at any time by selecting Phantom Job Details on the Occult Crescent HUD, selecting Change Phantom Job, and then choosing your desired phantom job from the Phantom Job Repertoire window.
With the release of Patch 7.55, new phantom jobs, including Phantom Black Mage and Phantom Blue Mage, have been added.
Phantom Blue Mage
The newly added Phantom Blue Mage gains new actions not from increasing in level, but by learning from enemies. To acquire an ability, you must witness your foe perform that ability before defeating it.
The actions you can learn are listed on the phantom job window under Phantom Traits.
Enemy Elemental Weaknesses
The hostile creatures of the Occult Crescent have elemental weaknesses and take greater damage from attacks of that element.
EXP Chains
Under certain conditions, consecutively defeating enemies within a set time period will yield a bonus to knowledge, phantom experience, and rewards accrued.
The bonus yielded increases incrementally up until chain 30, beyond which the bonus is capped.
EXP chains occur upon defeating an enemy whose knowledge level exceeds your own, but the exact threshold will change depending on party size.
During solo play, the threshold is based on your own knowledge level. While in a balanced party, the threshold is based on the party's average knowledge level. The exact thresholds are as follows:
- Solo: 2 levels higher
- 2 players: 3 levels higher
- 3 or 4 players: 4 or 5 levels higher
- 5 or 6 players: 6 or 7 levels higher
- 7 or 8 players: 7 or 8 levels higher
Enemies that can generate an EXP chain upon defeat are indicated with a special icon.
Parties
Unlike normal instanced duties, you may form, disband, or leave a party at any time on the Occult Crescent. You may also change your online status to Looking for Party.
* Note that if you enter the Occult Crescent with a party and decide to leave the party while exploring, you will be returned to the previously formed party upon exiting the instance.
Balanced Parties
A party formed on the Occult Crescent will be considered balanced when all members of the party are within 3 knowledge levels of each other.
In balanced parties, your knowledge level is adjusted to the average level of all party members, and enemies defeated award increased phantom experience.
Knowledge Level Sync
Enabling this setting will adjust the knowledge level of all members three or more levels higher than the member whose knowledge level is lowest, creating a balanced party. Warriors of Light are encouraged to make use of this feature as needed when playing in a group and aiming for chain bonuses.
A warning icon will display at the top of the Occult Crescent interface when your party is not balanced.
The party leader may press the level sync icon at the top of the Occult Crescent interface to toggle knowledge level sync on or off.
Encounters on the Occult Crescent
While exploring the isle, players can participate in FATEs and critical encounters. Neither FATEs nor critical encounters are affected by your knowledge level.
FATEs
FATEs are combat encounters that occur around the isle. Players may join FATEs by going to the indicated location on the map, even after an encounter has started.
Critical Encounters
Critical encounters are large-scale battles wherein up to 72 players band together to take on powerful opponents. Certain critical encounters can only be triggered by defeating monsters on the isle.
To participate, players must go to the location indicated on their map before the critical encounter begins and remain in the designated area. Please note that players may not join after a critical encounter has already begun.
Persistent Pots, Plentiful Treasure
Some FATEs on the Occult Crescent will task you with defending magic pots from hostile creatures. Those who contribute to the successful completion of these FATEs will discover a persistent pot NPC following them afterwards.
* Should a large number of players participate in one of these FATEs, players will instead be selected at random to have a persistent pot follow them.
Players being followed by a persistent pot will be granted the status "Cache Me if You Can." In exchange for sips of elixir, these soulkin will offer hints as to the location of hidden treasure.
Follow the hints and use your elixir at the correct location to reveal a concealed coffer. On rare occasions, the "Cache Me if You Can" status may persist even after finding treasure, allowing you to pursue further spoils.
The hunt for treasure will end when you discover all available spoils, you join a critical encounter while being followed by a persistent pot, you are incapacitated, or the persistent pot is incapacitated.
* Note that leaving the Occult Crescent or logging out of the game will also prematurely conclude your treasure pursuits.
Occult Record
Information concerning the Occult Crescent discovered during your expedition is compiled in the Occult Record.
Entries will be added to the record as you progress through the story, discover notes in the course of your expedition, and after you access certain areas of the isle.
Following the introduction of the Occult Crescent: North Horn, new entries in the Occult Record have been added. They can be accessed under Collection in the Duty section of the main menu.
* Complete quests on the Occult Crescent: South Horn to unlock the Occult Record.
Treasure Coffers
The Occult Crescent is teeming with treasure for the taking.
These chests are only visible to you, so be sure to reap the spoils when you encounter one while exploring.
Defeating monsters on the Occult Crescent and completing certain events may cause chests to appear somewhere on the isle.
Fortune Carrots
Treasure chests on the Occult Crescent sometimes hold a fortune carrot.
With one in your possession, you may start to notice signs of happy bunnies nearby.
Using a fortune carrot will draw one out into the open, eager to repay you with treasure. Be mindful that when someone receives a reward, however, you will have to search elsewhere for new signs of happy bunnies.
Occult Crescent Currencies
On the Occult Crescent: North Horn, there are two forms of currency: Enlightenment silver obols, primarily acquired from critical encounters and FATEs, and Enlightenment gold obols, primarily acquired from defeating enemies in the wild.
* Please note these currencies differ from those found on the Occult Crescent: South Horn.
Both can be traded to the expedition antiquarian on the North Horn (X:39.3 Y:38.6) for a variety of items.
You can confirm the amount of these currencies in your possession at any time by viewing the Occult Crescent interface.
Occult Crescent Gear
Players can acquire gear on the North Horn imbued with special enhancements that only take effect when worn within Occult Crescent areas.
You may also use items acquired on the North Horn to upgrade this gear up to three tiers.
Occult Crescent gear obtained on the South Horn may be exchanged for new gear of a commensurate tier on the North Horn. All upgrades and exchanges are carried out by the expedition armorer on the North Horn (X:39.5 Y:39.0).
The Forked Tower: Magic
The Forked Tower: Magic and the Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme) are the greatest challenges to be found on the North Horn.
Accessible upon reaching knowledge level 40 or greater, you may work together with up to 48 total players to overcome powerful foes and tricky battle mechanics with no restrictions on resurrection.
The Forked Tower: Magic may be unlocked by completing a certain quest available on the Occult Crescent: North Horn.
* Completion of the Forked Tower: Blood is not required to challenge the Forked Tower: Magic.
Entering the Forked Tower: Magic
Entrance is granted by an aetherial node that only appears during an Auroral Mirage. No ciphers are required for its activation, and a maximum of 48 players can be teleported.
* The appearance of the Auroral Mirage weather effect will be put on hold while a critical encounter is in progress.
Should more than 48 players board the aetherial node, entrants will be randomly chosen.
When boarding the aetherial node as a party, all members will be selected or refused entry together. Furthermore, players who are members of a selected party but are not standing on the aetherial node, or have yet to unlock the Forked Tower: Magic, will not be transported.
Those not selected will gain Forked Tower Priority for subsequent attempts, and players who have accumulated greater priority will then have a higher chance of being selected. Priority will reset upon successful entry to the Forked Tower: Magic.
* Players who are not standing on the aetherial node or have yet to unlock the Forked Tower: Magic are not eligible to receive Forked Tower Priority.
Entering as an Alliance
When entering with an alliance of 24 members or more, you will always enter a new instance. Moreover, players who are not part of the alliance may not join.
If an alliance meets the entry requirements for the Forked Tower, the Auroral Mirage weather effect will begin five minutes after entering the Occult Crescent. Once the alliance completes entry into the tower, or ten minutes have passed, the weather will clear and the instance will no longer be considered occupied. If the alliance does not meet the entry requirements for the Forked Tower, the instance will only be considered occupied for five minutes after entering the Occult Crescent.
Changing Jobs
In the Forked Tower: Magic, you may freely change jobs and phantom jobs while outside of combat.
Abandoning Duty
Players will be transported back to the base camp and will not be permitted to reenter the tower under the following conditions:
- Using Occult Return.
- Players are incapacitated and elect to return to the starting point.
The Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme)
Those with a knowledge level of 40 may form an alliance party between 12 and 48 players to seek an even greater challenge. Utilizing multiple phantom jobs will be key to successful completion.
The Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme) may be unlocked by completing a certain quest available on the Occult Crescent: North Horn.
Entering the Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme)
Players can enter the Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme) by speaking with Jeffroy in the phantom village (X:4.5 Y:6.6). A minimum of 12 entrants across three alliance parties are required to enter, and the party leader must speak with Jeffroy.
* While there are no player limits for each alliance party, the minimum requirement of three alliance parties must be fulfilled.
* All alliance members must be in the same phantom village instance to enter the Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme).
When entering the Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme), you will always enter a new instance. This newly created instance will be considered "occupied," preventing entry by players that are not part of the three alliances.
The Auroral Mirage weather effect will begin five minutes after entry.
Please note that unlike the Forked Tower: Magic, the instance will remain occupied until the duty is complete.
Upon entering the instance, the time limit is set to 15 minutes, but additional time is added based on progress through the duty.
Resurrection Restrictions
While inside the Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme), players will be subjected to a status effect that limits resurrection. Stacks of this effect are lost each time players are revived using certain phantom actions. After reaching 0 stacks, players can no longer be resurrected.
Changing Jobs
In the Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme), you may only change jobs and phantom jobs at the start of the instance.
Abandoning Duty
Players will be transported back to the base camp and will not be permitted to reenter the Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme) under the following conditions:
- Using Occult Return.
- Players are incapacitated and elect to return to the starting point.
Arcane Amulets
Arcane amulets are a special item that can be obtained while exploring the Forked Tower: Magic and the Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme). They can be traded to the expedition antiquarian on the North Horn (X:39.3 Y:38.6) for a variety of items.
New phantom weapon quests have been added.
In Patch 7.55, players will be able to enhance phantom weapons to their maximum strength by completing these quests.
Requirements
Under No Illusion
Disciple of War or Magic level 100 Phantom Village (X:6.6 Y:7.1) Lydirceil Players must first complete the quest "A Phantom Reborn."Enhancing Phantom Weapons
For the final steps of phantom weapon enhancement, players must participate in a variety of duties, and enhance their weapons a total of two stages. At the second stage of enhancement, players may select the desired attributes for their weapon.
Enhancing Additional Phantom Weapons
After enhancing one phantom weapon to the first stage, players may offer ecliptic arcanite to Dodokkuli in the phantom village (X:6.7 Y:7.1) in exchange for another phantom weapon that has already been enhanced to the first stage. Ecliptic arcanite may be obtained by trading Allagan tomestones of mathematics.
Furthermore, once one phantom weapon has been enhanced to the second stage, every weapon thereafter can be enhanced to the same stage without expending any additional items.
Class/Job-specific Quests
Phantom weapon quests employ a system which will require players to proceed using the same class or job with which they accepted the quest.
