Patch 1.17.00 is now available on Steam for both PC and Mac, though this update skews toward housekeeping rather than headline features. The patch prioritises three specific problem areas: challenge progression, equipment behaviour, and audio clarity during movement.

The most immediately visible fix addresses the "Desperate Rescue" challenge, where progress toward completion was not being counted correctly. For players grinding this particular objective, this means prior attempts that appeared to yield no progress may have been silently failing, so completion timelines may shift once the fix is live. The practical effect is straightforward: players can now trust that their challenge attempts are being recorded as intended. This fix often goes unnoticed until you realise you've been working toward a goal that the game wasn't actually tracking.

Combat and equipment behaviour received two separate corrections. Special headgear effects were failing to activate in specific situations, a vague phrasing that suggests either context-dependent bugs (certain enemy types, particular locations, or specific player states) or edge cases the studio encountered during testing. Without detail on which headgear or which situations, players will discover this fix through play rather than through deliberate strategy shifts. Separately, an issue where footstep sounds overlapped and animations stuttered during movement has been resolved. This affects all players equally and touches a basic element of moment-to-moment feel, so the improvement should be noticeable during any extended play session.

UI clutter receives attention as well. Icons for unobtainable treasure chests no longer appear on the map, eliminating a source of confusion for explorers. Trade routes that appeared in abnormal ways have also been corrected, which suggests either visual glitches or routes rendering in the wrong locations. These are quality-of-life corrections rather than mechanical changes, but they directly reduce friction when reading the map.

Localization improvements span all languages, though the patch notes do not itemise specific errors corrected. The studio acknowledges known issues exist but does not list them in the notes themselves, directing players to a separate notice instead. This is standard practice but means players encountering bugs will need to cross-reference external documentation to confirm whether their issue is already logged.

The patch's scope is modest: no balance adjustments, no new content, and no systemic changes. This is a stabilisation pass, the kind that often precedes larger updates or arrives when the studio has identified and resolved accumulated friction points. For players deep in Pywel's story, the challenge tracking fix may matter most; for everyone else, this is a maintenance update that should improve consistency without reshaping how the game plays.
