The Age of Empires platform team is taking multiplayer servers offline on Wednesday, 8th July for routine maintenance. The window runs from 2:00pm PT / 5:00pm ET / 21:00 UTC, with expected downtime between 1 and 2 hours. This affects all Age of Empires titles across Steam, Microsoft Store, Xbox, and PlayStation 5.

Ranked matchmaking will shut down exactly one hour before the maintenance begins to avoid leaving players mid-queue. Mod services will also be unavailable during the window. If you've got matches running when maintenance starts, they'll be disrupted, so the team recommends finishing games at least 10 minutes early. You'll still be able to launch the game itself, but online features and matchmaking won't be accessible.

Keep an eye on the official Steam thread for any schedule changes or the all-clear announcement once servers return. Full details on the maintenance window and what to expect are below.

DETAILS

This coming Wednesday, July 8th, the platform team will be taking the multiplayer servers down for regular maintenance. Please note:
  • During the maintenance window, mod services will be down for all games.
  • Ranked matchmaking will disabled exactly one hour before the maintenance window to prevent disruption to newly-formed matches.
  • Any matches still in progress at the start of the maintenance window will be disrupted when it begins.
  • DURING THE MAINTENANCE WINDOW, YOU WILL STILL BE ABLE TO LAUNCH THE GAME, BUT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MATCHMAKE OR ACCESS ANY ONLINE FEATURES.

To prevent any interruptions, we recommend wrapping up any games at least 10 minutes before the maintenance window. The downtime is expected to last between 1 and 2 hours. You can watch this thread with any changes to the schedule as they arise, as well as the all-clear when the maintenance is complete.

Thank you for your patience!
