Renowned RPG game Octopath Traveler has unexpectedly disappeared from the Nintendo eShop. The game, a brainchild of Square Enix and Acquire, can no longer be accessed for purchase on the Nintendo platform. Yet, previously bought codes for the game from independent sellers are still functional. Gematsu pointed out that the game’s publishing rights shifted in December, veering away from Nintendo to Square Enix.

The removal from Nintendo eShop might have been a foreshadowing of the game’s arrival on other platforms. PlayStation platforms specifically are awaiting its launch, especially with its sequel already making rounds on Sony's console.

A significant development recently was Kadokawa, the parent organization of FromSoftware, acquiring Octopath Traveler Studio Acquire. The purchase price remains undisclosed. Acquire, a Tokyo-based studio, is the brilliant mind behind Square Enix's RPG sensation, alongside other popular series like Tenchu, Way of the Samurai, and Abiba.

Established in 1994, Acquire currently boasts a team of 148 individuals, as indicated on its website. In Kadokawa's recent quarterly earnings report, a statement addressed the acquisition: “To strengthen the ability to create IP in games as part of our game business strategy, we have made Acquire Corp. into a wholly owned subsidiary.”

It added, “By acquiring the company, which has produced million-seller hit titles, we expect to generate synergies with our existing game-related subsidiaries, strengthen our planning and development capabilities groupwide, and enhance our line-up of console games.”
