In a recent development, Japanese police have reportedly arrested a man in his 20s suspected of being responsible for threats that led to the cancellation of Nintendo Live Tokyo 2024, reported by EuroGamer. The suspect is identified as a local government official in the Ibaraki Prefecture.

According to the Kyoto Shimbun daily newspaper (via 4Gamer), the suspect is believed to have interfered with Nintendo's business by sending multiple death threats through the company's official website inquiry form last year. The motive behind these threats remains unknown.

As a response to safety concerns, Nintendo announced the cancellation of several public events, including the Splatoon Koshien 2023 National Finals and Nintendo Live 2024 in Tokyo. The company cited ongoing threats targeting its employees, attendees, and event staff as the primary reason for the cancellations.

The cancellation of these events scheduled to take place in Ota Sogo Gymnasium and Tokyo Big Sight exhibition centre, was necessary as Nintendo could not guarantee the safety of its customers.

As a result of the cancellations, the Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship 2024, originally planned for Nintendo Live 2024, have been rescheduled to take place this month instead.

Following the success of the event's return in Japan in 2022, Nintendo Live fanfest made its way to the United States last year. The event held in Seattle in September 2023 featured various Nintendo Switch gameplay opportunities, live stage performances, gaming tournaments, photo ops, and other activities.

It is a relief that the suspect behind the threats causing the cancellation of Nintendo Live Tokyo 2024 has been apprehended, and fans can now look forward to the upcoming gaming championships with a sense of security.
