Big news has just dropped in the gaming world - Nintendo has announced its acquisition of Shiver Entertainment, the talented team behind the Nintendo Switch ports of popular titles such as Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1.

According to a press release from Nintendo, the company has entered into an agreement with Embracer to purchase 100% of the outstanding shares of Shiver, making it a wholly owned subsidiary. Shiver Entertainment, based in Miami and founded in 2012, has a strong track record of partnering with publishers and developers for large-scale title developments. The company was previously acquired by Embracer Group in 2021.

With this acquisition, Nintendo aims to leverage Shiver's experienced development team to enhance its capabilities in porting and developing software titles. Despite becoming a part of the Nintendo group, Shiver's focus will remain on commissions for porting and developing software for various platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.

Shiver Entertainment is renowned for its work on ports like Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat 11, and Mortal Kombat 1, as well as developing Scribblenauts Showdown. While some of its ports have been well-received by the gaming community, others, such as the Mortal Kombat 1 port, have faced criticism.

Although the financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, Nintendo has stated that it will have only a minor impact on its results for the current fiscal year. This move comes at an exciting time for Nintendo, as the company is gearing up to reveal its future plans, including the highly anticipated successor to the Nintendo Switch.
