Since its rocky start, Dying Light 2: Stay Human has made an impressive comeback and is now recognized as one of the top open-world zombie games on the market. The game, developed by Techland, offers players a solid post-apocalyptic experience and the studio is committed to delivering valuable updates for the game's future.

In a recent interview with MP1st, Tymon Smektala, the franchise director at Techland, discussed the success of Dying Light 2 and why the studio has chosen not to make it a live service game.

Despite being over two years old, Dying Light 2 boasts around one million Monthly Active Users (MAU), which is a significant achievement for a non-live service title. Techland recently rolled out a major update for the game, introducing new mechanics, firearms, and various tweaks to enhance the overall gameplay experience.

Smektala emphasized the importance of the strong relationship between the development team and the game's community, stating:

"I think the key here is our unique relation with our community. When we win, we celebrate together, when we fail our community is supportive and helpful, we treat each other with respect and understanding. We're very open with our community, giving them space and tools to directly communicate with us. This is our 'secret formula', this is what works for us."

He also mentioned that Dying Light 2 follows a "very unique formula" that is not suited for a live service model. Instead, the team will continue to deliver a premium gaming experience with elements of games-as-a-service.

Looking ahead, there are talks of a second major expansion for Dying Light 2, which was released in February 2022. While the future of the series remains uncertain, as Techland shifts its focus towards a new game set in a completely original universe.
