Supermassive Games, the creative force behind popular titles such as The Quarry and Until Dawn, has announced a significant reduction in its workforce. The studio is poised to dismiss up to 90 employees, which constitutes nearly 30% of its current team.

A recent Bloomberg report reveals that the company informed 150 of its staff members, about half of its workforce, about the potential job losses. This announcement was made at the start of the workweek, leaving many employees uncertain about their future at the company.

Through a public statement on Twitter, Supermassive Games expressed its regret over the decision. "After considerable thought and with heavy hearts, we are reorganizing Supermassive Games. This process, which involves consultation, is expected to result in the departure of some of our team members," the studio shared. They emphasized that the decision was not made lightly and pledged to support all affected employees throughout this challenging period.

Currently, Supermassive Games is collaborating with Behaviour Interactive on a new project titled The Casting of Frank Stone, set within the Dead by Daylight universe. This news comes amid a wave of layoffs within the gaming industry, which has already seen over 6,000 job losses in the first two months of 2024, following a year where the sector witnessed more than 10,000 layoffs.
