A recent report by Newzoo has shed light on the state of the gaming industry in 2023 and what the future holds. The report discussed the top ten games on each core platform based on Monthly Average Users (MAU) in 2023, unveiling some intriguing insights.

One striking observation was that Starfield emerged as the sole single-player game to make it to the top ten on Xbox and PC in terms of average MAU (Monthly Average Users), even without PlayStation data due to it not being released on that platform. This new franchise stood out among a list dominated by multiplayer and cooperative games, where the other titles had an average age of over seven years.

The Newzoo report highlighted the dominance of live service titles in the gaming industry. Fortnite led the pack in terms of MAU on all major platforms throughout 2023, followed closely by popular titles like Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and Roblox. Other notable mentions included Counter-Strike, League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Apex Legends, and Rocket League.

Starfield, a single-player exclusive game, made waves globally by securing a spot in the top ten across thirty-seven markets. Its launch on Xbox Game Pass in September 2023 catapulted it to the eighth position, sandwiched between Rocket League and Apex Legends.

While Starfield initially garnered massive attention with its marketing campaign and hype, interest has waned post-release in late 2023. Despite no immediate plans for major expansions, there are expectations of announcements at the upcoming Xbox Summer Showcase, where fans may also catch a glimpse of Gears 6.
