In a surprising turn of events, it has been reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin is pushing for the development of an independent gaming ecosystem in Russia. This ambitious plan includes funding for the creation of both stationary and portable game consoles, as well as a robust hardware and software network to support Russian gamers.

Sources close to the Russian government revealed this plan, which is said to be a response to sanctions and importation bans on foreign gaming devices. Putin's vision for a self-sustained gaming industry in Russia was highlighted during a recent economic summit, where he instructed his government to begin exploring the possibilities.

According to reports uncovered by PC Gamer, creating this gaming ecosystem from scratch could take up to a decade due to a lack of expertise in the country. Russian publication Kommersant stated that there is currently "no competence" in Russia to successfully develop such a system.

While Russia has a strong presence in competitive gaming, with teams excelling in esports titles like Counter-Strike, the country has not been known for its hardware and software development in the gaming industry. Escape from Tarkov, a popular shooter game developed in St. Petersburg, is one of the few notable titles to come out of Russia in recent years.

With Putin's ambitious plan to create an independent gaming ecosystem, the future of gaming in Russia looks promising but challenging. It remains to be seen what innovations and developments will come out of this initiative over the next decade.
