Riot Games has recently given an update on the highly anticipated League of Legends MMO, reassuring fans that the project is still in development despite the lack of recent news. Co-founder Marc Merrill shared insights into the progress of the MMO in a detailed post, mentioning that while the project was announced back in December 2020, the team has revisited the design phase in the last few years.

The team is now under the guidance of new technical director Vijay Thakkar, who is focusing on the technical aspects of the project as they restart from square one. This means that there won't be any immediate updates in the near future. According to Marc Merrill, fans may have to wait "several years" for significant news as the team dedicates time to refine the vision for the MMO. Merrill stated, "We understand the excitement and eagerness for new information, but we ask for your trust during this silent phase."

Previously, little information had been revealed about the MMO, but former game producer Greg Street hinted at the inclusion of raids in the game. Despite his departure from Riot Games in 2023, Street mentioned that the MMO would feature elements that might not please everyone, acknowledging the diversity of player preferences. This shift in direction is likely linked to Street's departure after more than a decade with the company.

With the recent reset in development, Marc Merrill confirmed that there will be a prolonged period of silence regarding the League of Legends MMO. This silence is seen as a positive step to allow the team to focus on refining the game's direction. Despite the setback, the MMO, codenamed 'Project F', is still a long way from completion.
