The previous year saw the unfortunate closure of Free Radical Design, echoing the last sigh of the TimeSplitters series, a favorite among gaming enthusiasts. This much-loved franchise lost its spark following the launch of its third installment, Future Perfect, in 2005. There was speculation about TimeSplitters 4 being under development since 2007, but it tragically remained unmaterialized. Nonetheless, a Reddit user recently posted the images and specifics of a concealed TimeSplitters 4 prototype found on a PS3 DevKit they bought from eBay, creating quite a buzz within the PS3 subreddit community.
The excitement commenced with a thumbnail of TimeSplitters 4 and later heightened with a series of screenshots of the prototype running actively on a PlayStation 3 DevKit. According to the Reddit post, the console was bought for £525 and has since revealed to be a goldmine of surprises. Fellow Redditors have encouraged the user, Flimsy-Zebra3775, to upload the game files to an online archive for preservation and analysis.
Flimsy-Zebra3775, now regarded as a gaming historian, has vouched to transfer the files to the 'archive team' on the TimeSplitters subreddit at the earliest. The team would then handle the precious commodity in a manner fitting to its legacy.
In his conversation with the seller, Flimsy-Zebra3775 discovered that the previous owner had connections in the free radical team until a month before their shutdown in 2008. The seller, who has gained a good reputation on the popular selling platform, has successfully initiated and shared images of the TimeSplitters 4 prototype in action. Updates about video footage would soon follow.
