Epic Games Developer Account Restored by Apple

As per a recent blog post update, Apple has officially restored the Epic Games developer account that had been previously closed.

Earlier this week, Apple shut down the Epic Games Sweden AB developer account, prompting EU regulators to seek further clarification. There were even allegations of Apple violating other technology laws in the EU. Just a day after these developments, Apple has reversed its decision. Epic Games announced that "Apple has informed us and assured the European Commission that they will reinstate our developer account".

The studio also mentioned that "we are progressing as planned to launch the Epic Games Store and bring Fortnite back to iOS in Europe".

Previously, Epic Games had announced its intention to return to iOS in Europe sometime in 2024. With the latest statement from the company, it appears that the termination of the account did not disrupt these plans.

Epic Games, known for developing Fortnite, has been working tirelessly to release the latest update today. The highly anticipated Myths and Mortals update, Battle Royale Chapter 5 Season 2, was scheduled to be rolled out hours ago. However, Epic Games ultimately decided to postpone its release by at least 8 hours.

Apple's quick reversal indicates that the European Commission and Digital Markets Act are likely to be implemented and effective. Notably, Apple, a tech giant, has long restricted such access until January 2024 when they announced the allowance of game streaming services and apps.
