Arrowhead Game Studios, the team behind the successful online co-op shooter Helldivers 2, have quashed rumours that they are set to be acquired by Sony. The studio's CEO made this clarification, following speculation that gained momentum on social media.
According to reports, the PlayStation's biggest ever PC launch to date, fuelled the rumour. An image of the PlayStation Studios logo, alongside the Arrowhead logo, circulated on social media, further prompting the speculation. The image was initially shared by social media user @NextGenPlayer, captioned "welcome to the family."
However, dismissing these rumors, Arrowhead's CEO Johan Pilestedt clarified that the image was fake. He even humorously pointed out that the logo shown was an outdated one, from when the studio was in its infancy back in 2008.

When Pilestedt was directly addressed by a user, who mentioned the sale of the studio to Sony, His cheeky response was "In that case, this would be the first I hear about it", thereby further nullifying the acquisition reports.
Assuming that questions might arise regarding studio ownership, the CEO posted a tweet to clarify on the topic even before the rumors started. He stated, "We are not owned. We are independently owned! I mean we are owned, but only by the founders (including me) of the studio."

Arrowhead Game Studios, responsible for creating Helldivers 2, released the game on PS5 and PC, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game's popularity soared, especially on Steam, where it managed to hold a position within the top 10 most played games, and once saw a peak of a massive 458,709 concurrent players.
Pilestedt himself has stated that with the resolution of server issues that gamers faced during the game's infancy, the studio can now dedicate more time to enhance the game. He commented "Now we have time to focus on improvements to the title and resume our original plan. Many exciting things upcoming."
