Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake May Drop One Week Before GTA 6

Leaked amiibo listings on Nintendo's UK store suggest the Ocarina of Time remake could launch November 12, just seven days before GTA 6 hits shelves.

Every other publisher in the industry has been scrambling to get out of GTA 6's way. Nintendo, apparently, wants to walk straight into it.

Leaked listings on the Nintendo UK store briefly showed two Kirby Air Riders amiibo figures, Sword Kirby and Dragoon and Noir Dedede and Hydra, stamped with a November 12 release date before the listings were pulled. As reported by Kotaku, a Reddit user initially spotted a November 11 date, but adjusting the system clock to the correct UK regional settings shifted it to November 12. That puts whatever Nintendo first-party game ships alongside those amiibo exactly one week before Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19.

Why does a pair of Kirby amiibo point to Zelda? Because Nintendo has a well-documented habit of shipping new amiibo on the same day as its first-party game releases, regardless of whether the figures are related to that game. The Mineru's Construct amiibo is arriving September 17, the same day as Fortune's Weave. Earlier this year, the King Dedede amiibo date leaked before Nintendo confirmed it as the launch day for Rhythm Heaven Groove on July 2. The pattern is consistent enough that fans treat amiibo dates as reliable proxies for unannounced game launches.

Nintendo revealed the Ocarina of Time remake during its June Nintendo Direct with little more than a brief teaser and a "2026" release window. No gameplay, no firm date. But the game's official Nintendo store page recently surfaced an ESRB E10+ rating listing "animated blood" and "fantasy violence." The original N64 release was rated E, but E10+ didn't exist until 2005. The 3DS version received the same E10+ rating, also noting "suggestive themes." A completed ESRB rating showing up on the store page suggests the game is further along than the vague teaser let on, and a proper reveal could surface at Gamescom in August or Tokyo Game Show in September.

Nintendo vs. the November Void

September and October are already packed with releases. November, by contrast, has been treated like a no-fly zone by most publishers desperate to avoid being crushed by Rockstar's launch. If Nintendo does slot the Ocarina of Time remake into November 12, it would be one of the only major releases willing to share that month with GTA 6.

I think this is a smarter move than it looks on paper. GTA 6 isn't coming to Switch 2. The audiences barely overlap. Switch 2 owners are going to want something to play in November, and handing them a from-the-ground-up remake of one of the most beloved games ever made is a pretty effective way to keep them engaged with the platform while everyone else is glued to their PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo isn't really competing with Rockstar here; it's filling a vacuum on its own hardware. The company has never cared much about what the rest of the industry is doing, and this would be the most Nintendo move imaginable.

There's a version of this where the November 12 amiibo date corresponds to a different first-party game entirely. But with the Ocarina of Time remake rated, confirmed for 2026, and lacking a release date while September and October fill up, the pieces fit too neatly to ignore. Nintendo returning to Gamescom as an official partner also lines up with a major reveal in the coming weeks.

If this holds, we're looking at one of the most loaded weeks in gaming history: the remake of what many consider the greatest game ever made, followed seven days later by what will almost certainly be the biggest launch of the decade. November 2026 is going to be expensive.
