Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake May Drop One Week Before GTA 6

Every other publisher in the industry has spent the past year quietly clearing out of November 2026, ceding the month to Grand Theft Auto VI like it's a natural disaster you simply don't build in front of. Nintendo, apparently, did not get the memo. Leaked amiibo listings on the Nintendo UK store briefly pointed to a November 12 release date for two Kirby Air Riders figures, and if Nintendo's own shipping patterns hold, that date likely belongs to a first-party game too. The obvious candidate is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, which was announced during June's Nintendo Direct with nothing more than a teaser and a "2026" window.

The listings, spotted by Reddit user gaysaucemage and reported by Kotaku's Ethan Gach, showed the Sword Kirby and Dragoon and Noir Dedede and Hydra amiibo stamped with a November 11 date. Adjusting the system clock to the correct UK regional settings shifted that to November 12, a Thursday. Nintendo has since pulled both listings, but the pattern they point to is well established. The Mineru's Construct amiibo is set to release on September 17 alongside a first-party title. Earlier this year, the King Dedede amiibo's July 2 date leaked before Nintendo confirmed that as the launch day for Rhythm Heaven Groove. Nintendo bundles amiibo shipments with game launches to save on logistics, and it has done so consistently enough that fans now treat amiibo dates as unofficial game announcements.

November 12 would place the Ocarina of Time remake exactly one week before GTA 6 arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. I love this. Every major publisher has treated Rockstar's launch window like radioactive ground, and here's Nintendo casually rolling up with a remake of what most people consider one of the greatest games ever made. It's a flex that only works because GTA 6 isn't coming to Switch 2, so Nintendo isn't really splitting its own audience. Switch 2 owners who don't also own a PS5 or Xbox will need something to play that month, and a ground-up Ocarina of Time remake is about as safe a bet as Nintendo can make.

Amiibo as Accidental Leaks

This isn't the first time Nintendo's store infrastructure has spoiled its own plans, and I doubt it'll be the last. The company is famously secretive about release dates right up until a Direct or Treehouse event, but its logistics chain doesn't share that discipline. Amiibo listings, placeholder pages, and rating board filings have all leaked Nintendo dates before the marketing team was ready. The Ocarina of Time remake was also recently rated by the ESRB with an E10+ classification, another signal that a full reveal is imminent. Gamescom in August or Tokyo Game Show in September would both be natural stages for Nintendo to show gameplay and lock in a date.

There is a scenario where the November 12 amiibo date belongs to something else entirely. Gameranx noted that The Duskbloods, another unannounced-date Nintendo title scheduled for 2026, could theoretically fill that slot. But sending a new IP into GTA 6's wake would be far riskier than sending a Zelda remake, and Nintendo has historically reserved its November window for its biggest fall release. If it's not Ocarina of Time, whatever does land there is going to have a very loud neighbour.

Whether this is bold strategy or cheerful indifference to what everyone else is doing, it's the most Nintendo move imaginable. GTA 6 will dominate PlayStation and Xbox that month. Nobody disputes that. But Nintendo has never really competed on the same calendar as third-party blockbusters; it competes for its own audience on its own hardware. A November 12 launch for Ocarina of Time would give Switch 2 owners a week-long head start on one of gaming's most beloved worlds before the rest of the industry disappears into Los Santos. If Nintendo confirms the date, expect it to come packaged with a full gameplay reveal, likely at Gamescom or shortly after.
