Kirby Amiibo May Have Leaked Zelda's Release Date

Nintendo has been careful to keep the release date for its Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake under wraps since the game was revealed at June's Nintendo Direct. No window, no month, just "later this year." But a pair of Kirby Air Riders amiibo, which have nothing to do with Zelda whatsoever, may have blown the whole thing open.

A post on the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit flagged something that, once you see it, is hard to unsee. Nintendo recently listed two new Kirby Air Riders amiibo, Sword Kirby and Dragoon and Noir Dedede and Hydra, with a release date of November 12, 2026. On its own, that's nothing. But as the post points out, Nintendo has been dropping amiibo alongside first-party game launches all year. The Kirby Air Riders Meta Knight and King Dedede amiibo landed on the same day as Pokémon Pokopia. The Tears of the Kingdom Mineru's Construct amiibo, which had its date announced back in May, lined up with Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave. And the Dedede and Tank Star amiibo released alongside Rhythm Heaven Groove. Three for three.

November 12 falls on a Thursday, which is Nintendo's standard release day. The company has no announced releases for November. The only unscheduled heavy hitter left on its 2026 calendar is the Ocarina of Time remake. I'll admit the pattern is circumstantial, but it's a pretty clean set of coincidences if that's all it is.

A Rating Adds Fuel

The amiibo theory gains extra weight from something else that happened this week. Nintendo quietly updated the official store page for the Ocarina of Time remake with an ESRB rating of E10+, listing "Animated Blood" and "Fantasy Violence" as content descriptors. As Nintendo Life first spotted, the rating hasn't appeared on the ESRB's own website yet, but games don't typically get rated until they're close to release. That lines up with a late 2026 window.

Fans have also noticed something missing from the new rating. The 3DS remaster of Ocarina of Time carried the same E10+ rating but included a "Suggestive Themes" descriptor, which the ESRB's description attributed to female characters "depicted from low camera angles and dressed in outfits that display moderate amounts of cleavage." The Great Fairies, in other words. The Switch 2 remake's rating drops that descriptor entirely, sparking speculation that the fairies may have been redesigned. Though as Kotaku's Zack Zwiezen pointed out, the Wii Virtual Console version of the original game was also rated E by the ESRB without a suggestive themes warning, and the fairies weren't changed in that release. So the missing descriptor might mean less than people think.

If the November 12 date is real, it would put the Ocarina of Time remake roughly a week ahead of GTA 6. Most publishers have been fleeing from Rockstar's launch window like it's radioactive, which is why September 2026 is absurdly crowded. Nintendo going head-to-head with GTA 6 would be a very Nintendo move. The audience overlap between a Zelda remake and a crime sandbox is minimal, and both games would be positioned perfectly for holiday gift-buying. If any company would shrug at GTA 6 and ship its game anyway, it's this one.

I find the whole situation funny. Nintendo runs one of the tightest ships in the industry when it comes to controlling its own messaging, and the thing that potentially unravels its biggest reveal of the year is a pair of Kirby figurines nobody was paying attention to. We still have no official release date for the Ocarina of Time remake, and Nintendo hasn't commented on any of this. But if the pattern holds, November 12 is the date to circle.
