Nintendo Can't Stop Tweaking the Zelda Movie Date
The live-action Legend of Zelda film has had its release date changed for the third time. It's now arriving one whole week earlier than planned.
Three dates in, and we still don't have a trailer. The live-action Legend of Zelda movie has had its theatrical release shifted yet again, this time moving up one week from May 7, 2027 to April 30, 2027. Shigeru Miyamoto announced the change via Nintendo's X account on May 13, 2026, opening with his now-signature "This is Miyamoto" introduction.
"In order to deliver it to everyone even one day sooner, the team is united in advancing production," Miyamoto wrote. "It's less than a year until release, but please wait just a little longer."
If you're keeping score at home, the film was originally announced with a March 27, 2027 release, then pushed back to May 7, and now pulled forward to April 30. That's three schedule changes for a net shift of roughly five weeks from the original date. I can't tell if this is meticulous calendar strategy or Nintendo just spinning a wheel every few months. A one-week bump forward is such a minor adjustment that it barely qualifies as news, yet here we are, getting a formal Miyamoto statement about it.
What would actually move the needle is any real information about the film itself. We know Bo Bragason plays Zelda, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth plays Link, and Wes Ball is directing. Filming wrapped in New Zealand earlier this year, and set photos have fueled speculation that the story draws from Breath of the Wild, with a photo of a dog resembling the Hylian Retrievers from that game spotted on set. Fan accounts have also pointed to what appears to be Dichen Lachman in costume as Impa. But Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed any of that.
around that late-April window is relatively clear, with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and Godzilla x Kong: Supernova both arriving in March and Star Wars: Starfighter not landing until late May. Whether that gap factored into the one-week shift is anyone's guess. At this point, Nintendo could announce the Zelda movie's fourth release date and I wouldn't blink. Just show us a trailer.
