Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Dodges GTA 6
Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider remake moves to February 12, 2027, sidestepping GTA 6 and joining Fable in the growing pile of games that would rather not compete with Rockstar.

February 12, 2027. That's the new launch date for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Crystal Dynamics' Unreal Engine 5 remake of the original Tomb Raider. Sony confirmed the delay during tonight's State of Play broadcast, alongside a new trailer showing off the Greece region, the iconic T-Rex encounter, and returning characters Natla and Larson.
The game was originally announced with a 2026 release window at The Game Awards last December. Sliding into early 2027 means Legacy of Atlantis now launches comfortably after GTA 6's November 2026 date, and I don't think that's a coincidence. Fable's reboot pulled the exact same move recently, also landing on February 2027. Publishers are quietly building a buffer zone around Rockstar's launch, and frankly, it's the smart play. No sane release strategist wants to go head-to-head with what will almost certainly be the biggest entertainment launch of the decade.
Two Tomb Raiders in One Year
Legacy of Atlantis isn't the only Lara Croft game on the horizon. Tomb Raider: Catalyst, an entirely new story set in Northern India, is also targeting 2027. If both games hold their dates, Tomb Raider fans are looking at a stacked year. Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are developing Legacy of Atlantis together, with Amazon Games publishing. The remake promises redesigned environments and modernised gameplay while keeping the structure and atmosphere of the 1996 original.
Pricing sits at $59.99 for the Standard Edition, $69.99 for the Deluxe Edition (which includes 48 hours of early access and a post-launch DLC story pack), and $199.99 for a Collector's Edition with a Lara vs. T-Rex statue. A Nintendo Switch 2 version was also confirmed, launching the same day as PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
I'm looking forward to this one. We haven't had a proper Tomb Raider or Uncharted in years, and the trailer makes Legacy of Atlantis look like it fills that gap with real confidence. The Greece section in particular looks gorgeous, a far cry from the blocky Saturn-era geometry most of us remember. Whether Crystal Dynamics can deliver two quality Tomb Raider games in the same calendar year is a bigger question, especially given the studio went through its fourth round of layoffs earlier this year. February 2027 gives them breathing room from GTA 6, but it also puts them right next to Fable for attention. At least Lara won't have to outrun a Rockstar freight train.
