Boost Too Hard and You Explode in Galactic Racer

Push the Ramjet too hard in Star Wars: Galactic Racer and your vehicle doesn't just slow down or stall. It explodes. Fuse Games revealed the detail in a new vehicle breakdown trailer hosted by Hibi, the in-game mechanic for a racer named Shade, kicking off a series that will spotlight each vehicle class before launch.

The first breakdown covers the Landspeeder, a vehicle most Star Wars fans will recognise from Luke Skywalker's garage. It's not the fastest or best-handling option on the grid, but its drift lets you maintain speed through corners better than anything else. Durability sits on the higher end too, though taking enough damage forces you into an Active Reload-style repair minigame to get back up to speed. The Ramjet boost is where things get spicy: it delivers a massive burst of acceleration and doubles as an offensive tool for slamming opponents, but overuse causes it to overheat. Keep pushing past the limit and you'll detonate yourself. In sub-zero environments where steering gets sluggish, though, that overheating risk might actually work in your favour as a counter to the cold.

I love that Fuse Games is leaning into genuine mechanical trade-offs instead of just giving every vehicle a generic nitro button. A boost that can kill you is the sort of risk-reward loop that separates a fun kart racer from one you actually have to think about. It reminds me of the tension in Episode 1: Racer where pushing your pod too hard would set your engines on fire, and it's a smart callback for a game positioning itself as that title's spiritual successor.

Galactic Racer also features a roguelike story structure with interchangeable parts that let you compensate for a vehicle's weaknesses, adding another layer beyond just picking the right class. More vehicle breakdowns are coming in the weeks ahead.
