60 Minutes of PS5 Reveals Kick Off With Wolverine on June 2

Sony just confirmed its biggest State of Play of the year, running over an hour and leading with an extended look at Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine ahead of its September launch.

Sixty minutes. That's how long Sony's next State of Play will run when it airs on June 2, making it one of the meatiest PlayStation showcases in recent memory. The company confirmed the event on the PlayStation Blog, promising "updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals from top studios around the world," with Insomniac Games' Marvel's Wolverine opening the show.

Insomniac will use the showcase to show off Logan's combat in detail and share new information about the third-person action-adventure game, which launches on PS5 on September 15. Sony's Tim Turi described the segment as offering "a closer look" at the game, with a focus on what the studio calls "brutal and relentless combat." After years of leaks, a major data breach, and long stretches of silence, Wolverine finally getting a proper extended spotlight feels overdue. I'm glad Insomniac is getting the stage time here; this is the studio's biggest swing since Spider-Man, and the September launch window means they need to start building serious momentum now.

State of Play returns on June 2. The stream goes live at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 11 PM CEST on PlayStation's YouTube and Twitch channels. Sony is also offering screenings at Alamo Drafthouse theaters across the US, which is an unusual move that suggests the company expects this one to land with some weight.

What Else Could Show Up

Beyond Wolverine, Sony hasn't named a single other game. But the first-party pipeline has several known projects in various stages: Santa Monica Studio's God of War trilogy remake, Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and Guerrilla Games' multiplayer Horizon spin-off, Horizon Hunters Gathering. Leaker NateTheHate previously claimed that Santa Monica is also working on a God of War spin-off following Faye rather than Kratos, and voice actor Christopher Judge has teased summer news about an upcoming project. There's also been speculation about PlayStation reviving older franchises, though nothing concrete has surfaced.

On the third-party side, the elephant in the room is Grand Theft Auto 6. Sony reportedly holds a marketing deal with Rockstar Games, and with the game still targeting this year, a State of Play appearance would be the kind of moment that turns a showcase into an event. Whether Rockstar is ready to show more is anyone's guess, but the fact that Sony announced this State of Play nearly two weeks in advance, rather than the typical two or three days, tells me they're confident in the lineup.

The timing slots this showcase right at the front of a packed June. Summer Game Fest follows three days later on June 5, with the PC Gaming Show, Wholesome Direct, and Future Games Summer Showcase all landing on June 6. Sony clearly wants to set the tone before the flood. Given the hour-long runtime and the early announcement, I'd be surprised if Wolverine is the only heavy hitter here. The back half of 2026 still has a lot of empty calendar space, and this feels like the show where several of those gaps get filled.
