Nintendo Direct Reportedly Drops June 9

Jeff Grubb and NateTheHate both point to a June 9 Nintendo Direct, which would cap off Summer Game Fest season with a proper showcase.

June 9. That's the date multiple insiders are pointing to for the next Nintendo Direct, which would slot the presentation right after Summer Game Fest wraps up and give this whole week-of-showcases stretch something it hasn't had in years: an ending that actually feels like E3.

Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb first floated the date on his Last of the Nintendogs podcast, saying he'd heard "Tuesday morning" for the broadcast. That lines up with Nintendo's usual 6am PT / 2pm BST slot. Grubb hedged slightly, noting things could shift to Wednesday, but the Tuesday target appears to be the plan. Separately, leaker NateTheHate backed up the timing on his own podcast: "From what I have heard, the Nintendo Direct will take place next week, the second week of June, and just to be clear, that is the week of the eighth."

Neither Grubb nor NateTheHate has a flawless track record, but NateTheHate in particular has been on a streak lately. He called the Star Fox announcement before it happened and had accurate Switch 2 details ahead of the official reveal. If both sources are independently hearing the same week, I'd be surprised if this doesn't materialise.

Nintendo needs this. The Switch 2's confirmed first-party lineup is thin right now: Star Fox launches June 25, Splatoon Raiders follows on July 23, and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave has no firm date beyond "later this year." Big third-party ports like Elden Ring remain missing in action, and Borderlands 4 was shelved entirely. A general Direct would be the first major one in nine months, since the September 2025 Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary show. Everything since has been Partner Showcases, Indie Worlds, or single-game presentations. NateTheHate has previously claimed Nintendo is planning a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for this holiday and has a second Star Fox game in development. A June Direct would be the natural place to confirm those.

Nintendo hasn't announced anything officially. The Switch 2 itself is priced at £395.99 and launches this month, so a Direct timed to its early window would make strategic sense. Previous June Directs in 2023 and 2024 landed on June 21 and 18 respectively, making a June 9 date earlier than usual but not unprecedented; the June 2019 show aired on the 11th.
