Moss Ditches VR, Fuses Both Games Into One Package

Polyarc's award-winning VR series is getting a flat-screen makeover. Moss: The Forgotten Relic combines both games into a single enhanced adventure for PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Switch this summer.

Two of the best games ever made for VR are leaving the headset behind. Polyarc announced today that Moss: The Forgotten Relic will combine the original Moss and Moss: Book II into a single, reworked experience designed for traditional screens. It's coming this summer to PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam.

Rather than a straight port, Polyarc is calling this a reimagining. According to the game's Steam page, The Forgotten Relic "unites the beloved and critically-acclaimed Moss and Moss: Book II into a definitive singular adventure, beautifully enhanced and reimagined for its debut on consoles and PC." Enhanced visuals and performance are promised alongside a new "Smart Follow Camera" system built to replace VR's natural head-tracking perspective. New handcrafted cutscenes have been added, the Twilight Garden DLC is bundled in, and there's a skip combat option for players who just want to soak in the puzzles and atmosphere.

"Our team has a deeply personal connection with the world and characters of Moss," said Polyarc cofounder and design director Danny Bulla. "With The Forgotten Relic, we're excited to invite players into Quill's journey to share the wonder, mystery, and heart at the center of Moss."

I'm excited about this one. Moss was always one of those VR games that made people who don't own headsets jealous; it won over 160 awards and nominations across both entries, and Moss: Book II took home Best VR/AR Game at The Game Awards in 2022. The fact that Polyarc isn't just dumping a VR game onto a flat screen but actually reworking the camera, cutscenes, and presentation suggests they understand what makes the transition tricky. How that Smart Follow Camera actually feels in practice will make or break the whole thing.

The announcement arrives under difficult circumstances for the studio. As reported by Polygon, Polyarc went through a round of layoffs just over a month ago, with former employee Alex Holodak stating the studio cut roughly two-thirds of its staff after an in-development project lost funding in 2025. Polyarc isn't alone; multiple VR-focused studios have faced layoffs or closures over the past year, and this pivot to traditional platforms follows a similar move by Vertigo Games, which is adapting its VR remake of The 7th Guest for PC and consoles with a launch set for June 4. No specific release date has been given for Moss: The Forgotten Relic beyond the summer window.
