Marvel Tokon's Hulk Wears Dinosaur Bone Armor

Arc System Works revealed Hulk and Black Panther at EVO Japan 2026, completing the Fighting Avengers team. Hulk's Savage Land exile gave him a look unlike any version of the character we've seen in a fighter.

Fourteen confirmed fighters out of a planned 20-character launch roster. That's where MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls stands after Arc System Works revealed Hulk and Black Panther (Shuri) at EVO Japan 2026 in Tokyo, completing the four-person Fighting Avengers squad alongside Captain America and Iron Man.

The reveal that caught my eye isn't the roster additions themselves; it's what Arc System Works did with Hulk's design. According to a post on the PlayStation Blog by producer Takeshi Yamanaka, the game's version of Bruce Banner was exiled to the Savage Land by S.H.I.E.L.D., the government, and even his own teammates. Living among dinosaurs and wilderness, this Hulk adorns himself with dinosaur bone armor to "reinforce his feral, untamed fighting style and highlight his raw power." It's a wild departure from the standard purple-shorts Hulk we've seen in every Marvel fighter since the '90s, and it's exactly the kind of creative swing I want to see from a studio with Arc System Works' pedigree.

Mechanically, Hulk builds a unique Gamma Gauge by channeling anger. When it maxes out, he enters Gamma Rage, a state that significantly boosts his strength and speed, opening up devastating one-shot attacks. If that plays anything like Guilty Gear's Burst-style comeback mechanics, it could make him a terrifying anchor in the 4v4 tag format.

Shuri's Black Panther and a New Villain

Black Panther is the Shuri version of the character, recently inheriting the mantle while still serving as Wakanda's chief scientist. Her gameplay revolves around the Spear of Bashenga for mid-range control and a high-speed dash called Bast's Blessing that can cancel out of normal attacks and skills. That cancel system sounds like it'll give her enormous combo flexibility, which is where Arc System Works fighters tend to shine. A new Wakanda stage arrives alongside her.

Voice actors were also confirmed: Fred Tatasciore voices Hulk, Erica Luttrell plays Black Panther, with Brian Bloom and Josh Keaton returning as Captain America and Iron Man respectively.

The trailer also teased the game's apparent main antagonist, The Champion, one of the Elders of the Universe. He's a cosmic being obsessed with hand-to-hand combat who destroys entire planets when their fighters bore him. Under his "Challenge of the Champion" tournament, teams of four battle through qualifiers for the right to face him. It's a clean narrative excuse for a tag fighter's structure, and I appreciate that the lore setup actually explains why these teams exist rather than just throwing characters together.

With Hulk and Black Panther locked in, the confirmed roster now includes Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Peni Parker, Star-Lord, Storm, Wolverine, Danger, Magik, Doctor Doom, Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes), and the two new additions. Six base roster slots remain unannounced, plus four additional characters through a Year One Character Pass. MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls launches August 6 on PS5 and PC via Steam.
