Everything You Earned in Marathon Season 1 Dies June 2

Your runner level, your vault full of hard-earned loot, your faction upgrades, your ranked progress: all of it goes to zero on June 2. Bungie confirmed in a blog post that Marathon's Season 2, titled Nightfall, will launch with a sweeping reset that strips nearly everything players accumulated during the extraction shooter's first season.

The wipe list is extensive. Runner level, ranked level, faction levels and upgrades, credits and most currencies, your entire inventory and vault contents, schema purchases, mailbox items, and priority contracts all get zeroed out. The only currencies that survive are LUX and SILK. You do keep your cosmetics, unlocked faction access, Codex challenges outside of runner and ranked levels, Rewards Pass progress, and Cryo Archive subroutine progress. But the gear you spent dozens of hours extracting? Gone.

This is the moment that's been looming over Marathon since launch. Bungie always said seasonal resets were part of the plan, but knowing it's coming and watching your vault get emptied are two very different things. For a game that already struggled with player retention, asking everyone to start from scratch is a massive gamble. I respect the design intent; a level playing field every season keeps the extraction loop from calcifying into haves and have-nots. But if the grind to rebuild doesn't feel faster or more interesting the second time, a lot of players simply won't bother.

Bungie is sweetening the final weeks of Season 1 to soften the blow. Starting May 19, map events are guaranteed every run and Wardens will always drop locked room keys. Cryo Archive opens daily from May 21 onward, with a free sponsored kit sent to your mailbox each day. Players who hit runner level 75 before the reset will receive a purple-rarity sponsored kit to start Season 2. A trailer posted on X teases the changes alongside a promise: the full Season 2 reveal arrives the week of May 25.
