A Billboard in Lego Batman Pays Tribute to Kevin Conroy

A billboard in Lego Batman's open world honours the late Kevin Conroy with a quiet, perfect tagline: "The voice of Gotham's night."

Buried inside the launch trailer for Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, between the bat-poop gags and the Akira slide, is something that hit me harder than any of the jokes. In the game's open world, a billboard advertises a fictional talk show called "After Hours with Conroy," with the tagline "The voice of Gotham's night." It's a tribute to Kevin Conroy, who voiced Batman for three decades across animated series, Arkham games, and countless other projects before his death in 2022.

Conroy wasn't just a voice actor who played Batman. For an entire generation, he was Batman. His performance in Batman: The Animated Series defined how the character sounded, and his work in Rocksteady's Arkham trilogy gave those games an emotional weight that no amount of combat polish could have achieved alone. A Lego game stuffed with references to every corner of Batman's history would have felt incomplete without acknowledging him, and I'm glad TT Games found a way to do it that's subtle rather than showy. No cutscene, no narration, just a billboard you might walk past if you're not paying attention. That feels right for a man who let the performance speak for itself.

As revealed by Warner Bros. Games ahead of the trailer's debut, the tribute was intentional and planned as part of the game's broader celebration of Batman's legacy across all media. Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight launches May 22 on PlayStation and PC, developed by TT Games.
