GTA Online Blocks Australia From Casino After 7 Years
Australian GTA Online players can no longer spin the Lucky Wheel, play blackjack, or touch any casino mini-game. The feature worked fine for seven years.

"Sorry if this is not the place for this post. I just saw a post on Reddit about how the Gambling feature has been removed for Australian users. I thought, surely not! But it is 100% correct."
That's from a user called J00B on the GTA Forums, and it captures the mood perfectly. As of July 28, Australian GTA Online players discovered they can no longer gamble at the Diamond Casino. No blackjack. No roulette. No three card poker. No slots. Not even the free Lucky Wheel spin, which costs nothing and just hands out cars and clothes. After seven years of uninterrupted access, Rockstar flipped a switch and locked the entire thing down.
GTA Online dataminer Tex2 confirmed on X that this wasn't a bug. The game's code now carries a territory-based restriction for "AU" across Casino House, Three Card Poker, Inside Track, Lucky Wheel, Blackjack, Roulette, and Slots. Players can still buy and sell casino chips, and they can still collect their 1,000 free daily chips. They just can't do anything with them besides buy exclusive clothing from the casino store.
The Diamond Casino & Resort was added to GTA Online on July 23, 2019. From day one, several countries were blocked from gambling features due to local laws, including Poland, Greece, Israel, Vietnam, and Portugal. Australia was never on that list. The game carries an R18+ classification in the country, and since casino chips can only be purchased with in-game currency (GTA$), and winnings can't be converted to real money, the feature has always been technically legal there. You can buy GTA$ with real money through Shark Cash Cards, so there's a pathway from real currency to virtual chips, but nothing flows back out.
Why Now?
What makes this bizarre is the timing. Australia introduced a new online safety code in March 2026 that forced companies to implement age verification for certain adult content. Mandatory minimum classifications for gambling-like content in video games were introduced even earlier. But GTA Online already had an R18+ rating. It was already compliant.
As PC Gamer's Shaun Prescott reported, there's a more specific trigger that might explain the change. GTA Online was re-classified for Xbox on July 22 using the automated IARC rating system, and the new consumer advice no longer includes "high impact gambling." If that classification doesn't flag gambling content, the gambling features can't stay live. It's a bureaucratic domino rather than a deliberate crackdown, which somehow makes it even more absurd.
I find it hard to take this seriously as consumer protection when Australia still allows wall-to-wall sports betting advertising. As one GTA Forums user put it: "Can't spin a wheel in a video game but gambling ads are fine." Players aren't losing real money at the Diamond Casino. They're playing pretend poker with pretend chips in a game rated for adults. Meanwhile, actual gambling companies sponsor half the country's sporting events. The disconnect is staggering.
The frustration goes beyond GTA Online's current state. If GTA 6's eventual online mode includes any kind of casino or gambling feature, Australian players will almost certainly be locked out from launch. Some players are already bracing for a scaled-back experience. "Guess I'll go back to the old acceptable way of earning money on GTA," one Australian player joked. "Deal lots of drugs, run weapons and all the other 'acceptable' ways."
Rockstar has not responded to press requests for comment. Australia joins South Africa, China, Argentina, and over a dozen other countries where GTA Online's simulated gambling is restricted. Whether this was Rockstar's choice or a forced response to a reclassification, the result is the same: a feature that worked for seven years vanished overnight, and nobody told players why.
