God of War Laufey Drops Feb 2027, No PC Port Ever

February 16, 2027. Sony Santa Monica locked in a release date for God of War Laufey at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, confirming the PS5 exclusive will arrive roughly eight months after its State of Play reveal.

The announcement came alongside a teaser shared on PlayStation's social media accounts, with the tagline "enter the afterlife of the gods." Laufey follows Faye, Kratos' wife and Atreus' mother, after her death and arrival in a realm called the Everywhen. The concept is a sharp departure for the series: rather than another Kratos revenge tour, this is a standalone story set during the events of 2018's God of War, starring a character who was only ever referenced in that game. Creative director Cory Barlog spoke at the panel, saying he "wanted to show an extension of this world where the characters you'll encounter are unexpected. Laufey is a continuation of what came before and to prepare and expand what comes next."

According to Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Faye, the idea for this game existed all the way back when the 2018 reboot shipped. That's eight years of an idea sitting in the chamber, and based on the roughly 23 minutes shown during State of Play, it looks like Santa Monica used that time well. I'm curious how the Everywhen concept plays out mechanically; a God of War game untethered from a fixed timeline could go places the series has never been.

PC players, however, won't get to find out. Sony has confirmed that Laufey will not receive a PC port, in line with the company's revised strategy to keep non-live-service titles exclusive to PlayStation. That's a reversal from the last few years, where PC ports of God of War (2018) and Ragnarök eventually followed their PS5 launches. Combined with Sony's announcement on 1st July that all PlayStation releases from January 2028 onward will be digital-only, Laufey sits in a narrow window: it will be one of the last Sony first-party games available on disc, and the last God of War that PC players can only watch from the outside.
