One Pink-Haired Pilot Stole Ace Combat 8's State of Play
Bandai Namco showed off stunning dogfights and a new chain destruction system for Ace Combat 8, but the internet zeroed in on one pink-haired pilot named Tasha.

Bandai Namco had jets, explosions, a chain destruction system, and a full October 2 release date to announce for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve during last night's State of Play. None of it mattered. The livestream chat latched onto one thing: Tasha, a grinning, pink-haired ace pilot who showed up for maybe a few seconds and immediately became the entire conversation.
"Just that pink waifu and I'm sold. Bandai Namco can't help releasing bangers," one fan wrote on X. Others pledged to dust off Ace Combat 7 purely so they'd be ready to meet her. According to the game's official website, Tasha is a former aerobatic pilot from Yuktobania's Zvezda team who was aboard the aircraft carrier Endurance shooting publicity footage when war broke out. She stayed. That backstory alone has more personality than most flight game characters get across an entire campaign, and I think Bandai Namco knows exactly what it's doing putting her front and centre in the marketing.
The actual game details are solid, too, even if they're getting drowned out. The Japanese site revealed that downing enemies with guns instead of missiles now causes debris to chain into other targets, and players will eventually unlock a second special weapon slot at the cost of reduced ammo for both. The online mode supports up to eight players with co-op and versus sessions, cross-play across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, and a first-person lobby where you walk around an air base with a custom avatar. Bandai Namco is also introducing a seasonal Premium Ace Pass, with Pixy's ADFX-02 Morgan shown as one of the rewards. That last part deserves scrutiny closer to launch, because a seasonal pass in a $70 game can go sideways fast.
But right now, none of that is trending. Tasha is. Seven years between mainline Ace Combat entries, a full Unreal Engine 5 rebuild, the series' biggest multiplayer suite ever, and the loudest reaction is to a character who smiled at the camera for a couple of seconds. I love it. Ace Combat 8 launches October 2, 2026, with Deluxe Edition early access starting September 29.
