1.5M in One Day? 007 First Light Crushes Its Launch
IO Interactive confirmed that 007 First Light moved 1.5 million units within its first day on sale, a blockbuster opening for the studio's first self-published Bond game.

1.5 million copies in 24 hours. IO Interactive shared the milestone on X, confirming that 007 First Light's opening day blew past any reasonable expectation for a single-player action game launching without the safety net of a major publisher behind it. IO both developed and self-published this one, which makes that number even more impressive.
First Light was available a day early on May 26 for digital pre-order customers, with the full launch following on May 27 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. "Thank you for showing up to the launch of 007 First Light, for your overwhelming enthusiasm, and for sharing your experience with the game," IO said in the announcement. The studio has already shipped a day-one patch (1.01) fixing cutscene crashes and NPC pathing issues, which is the kind of fast response you want to see from a team riding this much momentum.
I'm thrilled to see these numbers for a game that took real creative swings. IO could have shipped a reskinned Hitman with a Bond coat of paint and probably still sold well on the license alone. Instead, by most accounts, they built something that blends sandbox stealth with cinematic action in a way the franchise hasn't seen since GoldenEye defined a generation of shooters. A self-published studio hitting 1.5 million on day one without leaning on EA, Activision, or any legacy publisher infrastructure sends a clear message about what's possible when a developer owns its own IP deal and delivers a quality product. For a Bond game, and for IO specifically, this feels like a turning point.
