One year since 1.0 and Abiotic Factor is still expanding. Community Update #4 lands today with the kind of breadth you'd hope for from an anniversary milestone. Dozens of new devices, gear, perks, and foods, plus some quality-of-life additions that address long-standing friction points.

The Pet Pointer is the standout here. You can now command your mutant companions to attack, move to specific locations, hold position, or return to you. It's a simple feature, but pet control has been a consistent complaint, so this removes genuine friction from exploration and combat. Equally practical is the Trowel, which lets you recover seeds from planted items. A small thing that saves time in your base loops.

The Digital Grow Plot and Advanced Oven expand your crafting options. The former lets you cultivate exotic foods and ammo from data-derived crops, whilst the latter's dual timer prevents burning meals. New perks span Heavy Melee, Stamina, and Repair, giving you more ways to specialise. There are also new ID badges inspired by community content creators, plus crossover bundles with Roadside Research, Windrose, and RimWorld.

The Deep Field Team's gratitude to the community reads genuine, and the update's scope suggests they're committed to the long haul. See the full patch notes for every new device, perk, and hidden facility easter egg.

Greetings, esteemed colleagues!

It’s been one full orbit since 1.0, and Community Update #4 is here to celebrate a year in our cosmic lab! You’re invited to experiment with dozens of new devices, high-tech gear, exotic pets and a guiding tool, fresh perks, spicy foods, improvements, polish, fixes and much, much more - let’s go!

Dev Vlog

For scientists who prefer audio-visual summaries, Criss and Tom have assembled a presentation of this update in just 100 words.

Happy Birthday, Scientists!

The science never ceases! It's one year since 1.0 and Abiotic Factor is still growing!

So pop on a snazzy new birthday suit and celebrate with new friends and old!

The Deep Field Team: It’s impossible to truly convey how grateful the Deep Field Team is to every single scientist who arrived at the GATE Cascade Research Facility, on their first day, but we want to say to all of you - for joining us at GATE - for experimenting and exploring - for every single minute you’ve spent in this world with us…

THANK YOU.

- The Deep Field Team

Now, on to the new things!

Pet Pointers

Ever wanted more control over your pet? Have you desired simple commands, like ‘Stay there, you pesky little mutant’? Our Domestication Technology Specialists have devised just the thing!

The Pet Pointer lets you issue directions to those excitable little critters - command them to attack, direct them to specific locations or hold position, and recall them to safety.

Try one today!

Digital Delights

One of the most astonishing recent innovations from GATE’s Advanced Agricultural Division is the Digital Grow Plot. Harvest an ever-expanding crop of data-derived creations, by harnessing the raw power of information.

Grow exotic new foods!

Cultivate new friends!

Not enough ammo? Grow your own!

Speaking of gardening, scientists also have access to a more traditional tool now, too - the humble Trowel. Recover seeds and other planted items with a flick of the wrist!

As well as an array of exotic foods, GATE’s Nutrition Division is proud to present the expanded, experimental, accelerated Advanced Oven to suitably skilled scientists. Never burn a (birthday) cake again thanks to its convenient dual timer!

Perhaps use the new Advanced Oven to bake Stuffed Mushrooms, harvested from your own little walking mushroom plot - with some helpful healing benefits.

Combat Craftables

For scientists striving to hone their accuracy, two new inventions await - the Test Dummy and Test Target! Practice thwacking, bonking, stabbing and shooting to your heart’s content.

Feeling Perky

We’ve really done it this time, adding an array of new Perks for ambitious scientists. Whether you’re feeling the power of new Heavy Melee perks, supplementing your Stamina, or advancing your Repair and a raft of other skills, your professional development program just got a serious workout.

New Watches

Looks like it’s about time to wrap this post up! Get it? Because watches? And the telling of time? With said watches? Thanks for coming.

New ID Badges to Discover

We’ve added some new ID badges to be discovered throughout the facility. The designs were inspired by some of the scientists who gave Abiotic Factor a chance and made some amazing videos during our earlier days. If you scientists like these, we can do more in the future. There’s lots of people we’d love to collaborate with!

Bundle Up This Summer!

With some wonderful fellow scientists and survivors!

Abiotic Factor has bundled with Roadside Research! For when you’d rather be the alien over an egghead scientist:

And Windrose! For the summer when you’d rather be at the beach than trapped in an underground facility with questionable air conditioning technology:

And our space survivalists of RimWorld:

(Plus popped a little something in the Facility for our scientists to find.)
