Unreal Engine Upgrade - Version 4.27
We’ve updated the Unreal Engine version that Pacific Drive uses to the latest version of Unreal Engine 4 - 4.27!
- This upgrade comes with significant changes and improvements to DirectX 12, which we have found improves performance and fixes those rare cases of mesh transforms becoming ‘corrupted’.
- For visual context, this is the glitch that showed massive spikes or broken textures in-game.
- Ex: (The sky dome being too small, a car part’s mesh physically skewed, or other similar vertex-bending artifacts).
- This upgrade moves us to the newest, most stable version of Unreal Engine 4, which improves stability of the game across the board.
- Performance Improvements from the engine update and the result of ongoing work:
- Foliage & Landscape Optimization (GPU)
- Improved shader caching to address hitches (GPU)
- Post Process & Lighting Optimizations (GPU)
- Multiple UI Optimizations (CPU)
- For anyone facing issues with this upgrade, it’s recommended to check that your GPU drivers are up to date.
Bugs and UX Fixes
- Fixed an issue where sometimes meshes would become distorted on load for any location in game.
- Improved car doors closing on inclines, related to physics and has been adjusted.
- Player will now receive an impact hammer from the friendly dumpster if they can’t progress in the tutorial after returning from the first trip without one
- Resources less likely to get stuck in boulders - no longer stuck inside geometry.
- Fixed UI tabs to update more reliably in the logbook, inventory, and menus
- The radio will not interrupt music played by quest progression
- Prybar health meter has been enlarged when the icon is flipped horizontally
- Fixed an issue where the camera would sometimes move erratically while getting into the car
- Made payload more noticeable after it lands and fixed issue were interact prompt would not appear when highlighting the payload
- Fixed an issue where cosmetic items could be duplicated while interacting with the Detailing Station specifically
- PC ONLY - Fixed an issue where some graphics setting configurations were displaying at higher settings than displayed.
- Ex: Choosing a low, medium, high setting will no longer leave the setting set higher than displayed and will now be accurate.
Known Issues
- “More Info” button is not working with controllers on any platform while in the inventory menu screen specifically, usually mapped to L3
- Status effect icons on bumpers do not properly follow the icon when the bumper icon is rotated
- Radio Interstitial subtitles will appear regardless of how far player is from the radio
- Custom music will cut out infrequently while playing in the garage
- Rarely, loot containers may spawn with no loot in them
- Containers can be lootable through specific walls
- Issue where the display mode can be shown incorrectly; will show Windowed mode at 1280x720 instead of the correct settings after changing the display mode and/or resolution.
