Nintendo is in the limelight once again, but this time it's not for a new game or console. Instead, they're taking legal action against accessory manufacturer Genki. The gaming giant argues that Genki jumped the gun by showing off 3D-printed mockups of the Nintendo Switch 2 before any official announcement.
Filed in California, the lawsuit claims that Genki, under its parent company Human Things, engaged in trademark infringement, unfair competition, and false advertising. Nintendo's demanding destruction of all Genki products related to the Switch and to cease using their trademarks prominently.
The timeline of alleged misconduct began with tweets in late 2024, extending to what Nintendo believes were unauthorized product displays and media disclosures at the Computer Electronics Show 2025. Notably, Genki’s involvement went as far as using their own "Direct" presentation term, nudging even more at Nintendo's brand identity.
