Roman Reigns and Jason Momoa might be taking their talents to the Street Fighter universe. According to Deadline, these two heavyweights are in discussions to star in a new adaptation helmed by Legendary Pictures, with Capcom co-producing the project.
This isn’t Street Fighter's first rodeo in Hollywood. The franchise has had its ups and downs over the years, with the most infamous adaptation being the 1994 version featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme. While it took a lot of heat from critics, it surprisingly raked in around $100 million at the box office from a $35 million budget. That mix of failure and success seems to be a common theme for video game adaptations, especially for Capcom's library.
Momoa’s star power has been on the rise, especially with the recent success of A Minecraft Movie, which grossed over $816 million globally. It’ll be interesting to see how he and Reigns, a WWE titan who transitioned into movies, bring their unique styles to iconic characters from the Street Fighter series. As excitement builds, fans are left to wonder how this latest attempt at a beloved franchise will fare.
