EA Dials Down Remote Work: Moves to Hybrid Models

Caught between the crossfire of changing work landscapes, EA has revealed a shift towards in-office work, much to the excitement and concern of its employees. While remote work became a norm during the pandemic, EA is redefining what hybrid work means - employees are expected in the office at least three days a week. As reported by IGN, CEO Andrew Wilson paints this move as a spark for creativity and collaboration, but it also rings alarms for those used to remote flexibility.

Laura Miele, EA Entertainment's president, provides a bit more context in a follow-up email. EA is giving workers a buffer with a 12-week notice before changes take real effect, and a geographical classification determines worker status. Those within 30 miles of an office need to be present on-site more often. The grand plan? Phase out "offsite" roles within the next two years. While EA touts this as a way to energize creativity and teamwork, some employees are worried about the impact, given long commutes and personal constraints. Plus, recent layoffs have only fueled the anxiety, affecting units like Respawn Entertainment significantly.
