Codemasters Cuts Jobs as It Moves Away from Rally Sims

Codemasters has confirmed they're hitting the brakes on developing rally racing games like EA Sports WRC. The studio is in the midst of layoffs, though they've expressed intent to shift affected team members to other EA Sports projects whenever possible.

The decision seems part of a broader corporate strategy shift, with a Codemasters spokesperson highlighting to VGC their aim to adapt to player needs and refocus their priorities across the EA games lineup. While exact numbers weren't disclosed, it's clear that more than just buzzwords are on the line.

This isn't just a Codemasters issue; it's a ripple across EA. Recently, EA executed a similar cutback, laying off around 300 employees, notably including positions at Respawn Entertainment. This move follows the shelving of an anticipated Titanfall spinoff.

Sadly, Codemasters had to make similar tough choices before, with job cuts back in December 2023. Whether more layoffs are on the horizon amid the changing tides remains to be seen. Stay tuned to see how these moves impact the gaming landscape.
